Great video, I'm super excited for the new features! Wasn't cached playback already included with Maya 2021? I'm confused which options are new there

So the new feature for Cached Playback is the massive improvements in speed to the point where you no longer have to playblast and also the options you have now to play with Cached animations to get the most out of your animations.

Great video, how much ram do you have? I wish your example for the cached playblack would have being something heavier with 5+ fully animated characters and around 200+ frames. Maya never seems to interpolate the ram properly and it always ends up running out of memory…at least for 2020.

I had 16 GB of Ram..i've upgraded recently to 32GB. But yeah when it comes to multiple characters on screen Maya sometimes struggles depending on the characters. My advice is for you to create proxies or animate them individually or in pairs of two as much as possible. Autodesk is working hard on making that better.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I do like the new cached playback as speed is always sought after while animating. Curious to know what evaluation mode you were using. Parallel is usually faster than DG, but does produce some unusual problems with rigs. Appreciate any feedback you may have. Thanks!

Thanks for watching. And Parallel is a requirement for Cached Playback so since Maya 2020 I always use Parallel it is as you said faster. But it depends on your computer and how fast it is. ;) Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback! Good to know regarding the Parallel setting. Currently running Maya 2019 though and my rig has been behaving very strange in Parallel mode. For example, my head/neck starts bending backwards for no reason even though I did not touch the controls or curves. Yeah so weird and may be a product of a bad rig/setup. Will just move forward though and do the 2022 upgrade and use Parallel for the speed. Thanks again and all the best! Keep up the great works and fantastic videos! 👍

Ghosting needs an option for keys only.

Yes, as a student you can upgrade now but you will have to change from the "Free for 3 years" terms and condition to the "Free for 1 year" terms and condition. I had 1 more year for free with the old module system Autodesk used to have for students but had to change it to use the 2022 Maya version. All you have to do is provide them with a School ID and you'll be able to download the 2022 version.
