Well first it was books to get their minds off TV, now it's TV to get their minds off the internet, and later it'll be the Internet to keep their minds off of alternate reality or something.

+David Maxfield haha, Turner Classic Movies is like the shining light in the modern era of crappy TV programming that does nothing but distract and numb the senses. Older film reminds us of where we come from, the values of past and present, film as art, cultural representation, acts as a socio-political timeframe. It's a very good and loving act she is gifting to her children.

My favorite line from an old Cagney movie: "What are you gonna do? Turn yellow and squeal?"
@Allagi229 жыл бұрын
My favorite classic old timey line is "Mr.....you aint got a leg to stand on" Because anyone can say "OH THAT IS BULLSHIT" but that line is not only classy, it is literally saying, you are so full of it, that you can't even support YOURSELF let alone your "argument". Bring back the old slang! It'd be the bees knees daddyo.

Actually, a University of Texas study showed that people who spoke using fillers ("like", "you know", etc) do so because they are very conscientious and thoughtful, and want to make sure that what they say is accurate, while avoiding awkward silences during a conversation. It's noticed throughout MANY different languages. Or, you could just keep on assuming that anything connected to young people or women (or, more specifically, young women) is automatically stupid. You do you.

What's so funny about Conan calling that "classic speak" is that Sweet Smell of Success was about Burt Lancaster playing a big shot New York columnist (a la Walter Winchell) who exercised his huge influence over the entertainment industry by using excessive force and manipulation. Tony Curtis is playing a wise guy who uses "hip" language that supporting actors from the theatre like Cliffton Webb and Tony Randall would never have considered classic. It was the same junk, different era that we enable the "Cash Me Outside" to make money off of.

You think it's healthy for the long term mental health of a child if you tell them never to stand out, never to find their own way in the world because you worry that other children will bully them because of it?
