Hi, Thank you for your sharing. It is very helpful. Is it easy to change major at UConn ? Thanks
@MayaAcker4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had any personal experience with changing majors but I’ll let you know everything that I’ve heard from other people. In terms of the process, it’s mostly just talking with your advisor and filling out paperwork. The difficulty level depends on if the new major is in the same college or school. If it is the same, then it’s pretty easy to change majors. If it isn’t, then it’s a little more difficult since you’ll have to also deal with switching into the new college or school.

@@MayaAcker thank you, it is really helpful. Most likely I will change major in the same school.

what month is orientation? Also for the placement test, do I need to study? and when do u recommend that I should take it, like as soon as possible or closer to orientation?
@MayaAcker4 жыл бұрын
Last year we got to pick which orientation session we wanted so I chose the June 3-4 one. However I’m not sure how orientation will work this year. UConn should be contacting you with more information about it soon

Since I love math and am majoring in it, I didn’t feel the need to study but it depends on how confident you are with the subject. Personally I thought the questions were easy in comparison to the AP calculus AB exam and got a perfect score on the placement test. If you don’t feel confident with math, maybe brush up on a couple of topics and take the practice exam that UConn offers. Most of the questions are algebra based so if you’re good with algebra concepts then you should be able to easily get the score you want.

I took the test as soon as possible because I just wanted to get it over with. There’s no harm in waiting though so it’s completely up to you. If you feel confident in math then take it as soon as possible. If you think you need to study a little bit then maybe wait a few days while you review.

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman and I am also planning on majoring in actuarial sciences. I was just wondering how hard the math and chemistry placement exams are. I am not an honor student, but I may plan on applying in later years would you recommend that?
@MayaAcker4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I thought the math placement test was very easy because it's mostly algebra based. It is definitely easier than the AP Calculus AB exam, and there were only two or three questions that might give people some trouble. I got a perfect score on it, and since you're majoring in actuarial science, you should find it pretty easy, too.

Since I had my lab credit from AP Chemistry, I didn't take the chemistry placement exam, so I'm not sure how difficult it is.

Personally, I think the honors program is most beneficial during your freshmen year because you take classes with other honors kids and then see them around in your dorm building/Buckley dining hall. As a freshman, the honors program really facilitates meeting other people in that tight-knit community. However, most actuaries can't maintain the necessary GPA due to the difficult actuarial science classes or leave the honors program by choice because they would rather focus on studying and passing the official exams rather than do research for the honors thesis that's due senior year. It's completely up to you though, and I would definitely talk about it with your advisor. With all of the honors requirements that are needed to graduate, it is definitely better to get a head start on them, so if you want to apply for the honors program, I would definitely do it sooner rather than later.

If you see me, definitely say hi! Also, just to let you know, despite most actuaries dropping the honors program, I plan on doing everything I can to stay in it and graduate in the honors program.
