After Clark Kent, uses his super hearing to learn the details of a planned armored car robbery, he must convince Henderson of the facts and then capture the crooks ... as Superman!
In some of the earliest episodes Superman is still an unknown figure to some people in Metropolis as indicated by Davis' line, "Stay away from me, whoever your are, or I'll shoot." Davis is played by Tris Coffin (King of the Rocket Men) and Green by Pierre Watkin (Perry White in the Kirk Alyn Superman serials of 1948 and 1950).

The first season of Superman was so intense and just so well put together. Produced in 1951....it still holds up incredibly well in 2024.

Correct they were not trying to be campy. Story lines tried to be more dramatic and serious

Yes she was. The series was a lot more adult oriented in the first season. Wish they continued with that approach, though the remaining seasons were wonderful in their own way.

@@patbyrne3076 So do I , they turned more childish after first two .Of course there still was some great episodes but the first two seasons were hard hitting and the best.

One from the first season, when they were sticking to more " down to earth " crimes & adventures The eerie background music when Supes is facing them down gives a feel of the spooky/supernatural, and helps to convey the reaction of the crooks to something they have never heard of

The first two seasons of TAOS were still under the influence of the aftermath of the war, which gave rise to the film noir genre. The stories were dark and crime-heavy; Superman was consequently stern and a no-nonsense agent for law and order. The music was commissioned by producers at Republic Studios for their B movie entries into film noir; it was then recycled into TAOS. It remains some of the most complex and sinister music ever used in television.

Still recall this music from the series. Who did the backround music?

The answer to that question requires more space than allotted here. In the early 90s, Paul Mandell wrote an article for Starlog magazine that answers this question. Send me an email at JIMNOLT@YMAIL.COM.

I know that they intended to have Pierre Watkin play Perry White if the series had continued. Did they really think viewers would accept Pierre as Perry White after he played a villain in the series? Why not Ben Welden as Perry White? *LOL* He could have said, "I AM DA BOSS"

This scenario is a little vague, and we don't have much more than Noel Neill's remembrances to go by, but she said that it was her understanding that Pierre Watkin would place Perry White's brother ... taking over for Perry while he was out of the country on a story. In fact, the whole idea of a 1959 season itself is a little vague. When I spoke with Whit Ellsworth in 1980, he denied that there was to be another season ... and indeed there is no hard evidence to the contrary. No scripts, no contracts ever surfaced (although Jack Larson kept contracts for the other seasons). All that said, Noel Neill and Bob Shayne insisted they were contacted and told when they were expected to begin. And Pat Ellsworth, Whit's daughter, told me that when she first called her father after hearing of George's death said that he had just spoken to George about coming back to work.

Well, the other thing about this clip (this is 2023 now) is the word GREEN. In my life time, its gone from being a name and a color to being MONEY and ENERGY! Pity red, blue and black. They didn't make it
