What I loved about this scene was not only being able to witness Kal-El employing Kryptonian crystalline technology (powered by solar, stellar, electromagnetic and gravitational forces) to navigate the stars, but his home world itself which is light-years distant from Earth and bathed in the rays of its red sun Rao. As the last of its dominant species, he quickly learns that the radioactive remains of Krypton, destroyed by its unstable core and devoid of all flora and fauna, are deadly to its former inhabitants, and that he has to flee for his life or succumb to radiation poisoning. Being able to see him get away from his signature blue and red color scheme trimmed with yellow and flowing cape as he wakes from stasis, the ethnic attire of his people, by his wearing what can be called a grey flight suit was good, too. Why this wasn't included in the movie I'll never know. It was the best part.

Idk about it being the best part, but it definitely added some insight into the scene just after he returns to the public eye, where the newscaster states that he’s been flying around for days at speeds so fast that he can’t be tracked saving tons of people. He visited the planet of his birth, which is now poisonous to him, and he is even more fully embracing Earth. Plus, it’s an interesting bookend at the beginning for the newscast at the end stating that the landmass he lifted from the ocean is in orbit around the sun, still growing, and astronomers are calling New Krypton.

@Esphaeras Praestans when a star goes supernova (as what Rao/"Red Krypton Sun" did), right after the iron fusion takes place and the core mass goes critical, the first thing that gets thrown out are neutrinos, which are known to pass through solids. Who knows what the composition of the "Salkindverse" Krypton was (other than the crystal technology used to alter and terraform the surface), but in the comics, in particular the Man of Steel comic book series, Krypton's core was uranium (as opposed to iron like Earth's), which because of the Doomsday Machine being detonated during the Kryptonian Clone Wars, slowly altered the stable uranium core into a core of kryptonite, which caused Krypton's destruction (and which the DCEU Krypton's destruction was based upon, except it was over mining and not a prior thermonuclear detonation). The neutrinos, plus the alpha and beta particles, along with the gamma rays from the supernova explosion, would have been enough in itself to change the crystal materials into the kryptonite seen in the "Salkindverse".
@Daron7181 Жыл бұрын
@Esphaeras Praestans You’re right. When the red sun Rao exploded, the heat and radiation (neutrinos) from the supernova explosion basically cooked the planet changing its minerals molecular structure and fusing them into the new deadly radioactive green kryptonite.

He basically traveled all those light years for a quick flyby... then headed back home... rather boring when it comes to movie clips. NOW had he retrieved something, then that would have made for an insanely good clip. Especially if it was used later in the movie or as a teaser for a future movie. Like maybe a device that would help get super girl out of the phantom zone or something like that. I'm not a big follower of superman though, so I don't know if that example makes sense or not. I agree but you know what, they actually had to rewrite the movie during production to make Lex the focus of the movie because it became very apparent that Brandon Routh couldn't act let alone carry a 200 million dollar movie. Its apparent in the final cut because he hardly has any lines in the movie. Also a lot of people dont realize this but when this movie was initially assembled prior to making any cuts, it came in at over 4 and a half hours long. Now theres a difference between making edits to make the film move more smoothly and chopping 2 hours out of the movie. They lost so many subplots and plot points such as the return to krypton stuff and the subplot that involved Lex's crony played by Kal Penn that revealed that Lex was the one that had faked the astronomy information that said Krypton still existed in order to get superman off the planet so he could get out of jail. Also there was subplots that involved General Zod and the trauma that battling the last 3 Kryptonians caused Superman that made him want to see if there was any other survivors out there.

It’s interesting how all of the deleted scenes cut from the film, would had also made the movie a whole lot better to watch. Superman going on a voyage through space and time in hopes of finding the doomed planet only to discover what he had known all along that krypton had been destroyed ages ago. This scene alone explains to the audience as to why Lois wrote her article: “Why the world doesn’t need Superman”- but also giving the old and new audience in theaters a brief rundown on as to why Superman had left earth in the first place.

I really liked this movie. This beginning would have been awesome. Especially considering most of the film was about Lex's focus on the crystals.

This opening scene is the greatest opening scene in any movie, never-mind any Superhero movie scene ever created. The score is perfection, the acting by Brandon Routh is perfection 👌. It is Pure genious, it's Superman in full glory, it's powerful, it packs a punch, the acting is 100% grab you. Damn perfection 👌👏👍✊️🔥✅💎❤️

Very cool scene, thanks for posting. I really enjoyed this movie, Brandon did a great job as Superman and I loved Martha's hint at Supergirl. I think the failure was in continuing on in the Christopher Reeve Universe storyline and subtracting from it the third and following movies, it had been years since those movies and most forgot the finer details of Superman one and two (i.e. Clark having his powers removed and playing around with Lois, leading to her future pregnancy) but it's all history now, a worthy effort.

The scene remind me of how exoplanet OGLE-2005 BLG390 Lb could look like and I think Krypton could be a true exoplanet within just 20 ly closer to Earth. It could orbit either one of the nearest stars like Ross 128, Barnard's Star, Luyten's Star or even Proxima Centauri.

Wow! Kal-El almost didn't make it back to Lois back home! This deleted scene was very claustrophobic and scary for me. As a trained Scuba Diver, Supey about to get cut and stranded on Kryptonite infected Krypton was like rupturing your only air hose hundreds of feet deep in the ocean all alone! Sure glad he quickly abandoned the idea to *flip* *the* *house* of *El* !

Its very disappointing this footage was not added to the movie, to include that Brandon Routh was not given another chance to continue in a Superman Returns Part 2 or at least to continue the legacy.

The situation Brandon Routh faced with this being his only Superman movie is not unlike George Lazenby was put into, only making one James Bond film between Sean Connery & Roger Moore for the film Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Should have left this in, maybe could have been a flash back scene. The ship was a similar design to the craft in SUPERMAN 1 when baby Kal-El was sent to earth by his parents

Excuse me, but wasn't Krypton supposed to been completely destroyed?
@aaronleverton42213 жыл бұрын
@The Mystery Man It really looked that way, until he turned around to get outta there and then we see the actual total destruction. My immediate reaction to all of the lack of destruction was "Nuh, that ain't what I saw in 1979."

Yep-the sun blew up-nothing left-except tons of kryptonite of course
@damelos40393 жыл бұрын
@The Mystery Man Must agree. The planet was destroyed when the sun went nova. There should be nothing left but a nebula from the star's explosion. Theory was that fragments of the planet were caught in the wake Kal-El's ship's propulsion to Earth....basically tagging along the entire time. That's how kryptonite fragments got all the way to Earth. Am I the only one paying attention here?? LOL.
@Daron7181 Жыл бұрын
@@damelos4039 The nebula was there in the very beginning as his ship was almost at Kryptons location. They took creative license from the source materials to why a huge miles long and wide fragment of Krypton’s crust and mantle were left over. In MOS Krypton exploded due to an unstable core due to Kryptonians harvesting it for energy but it also left huge segments of the planet intact.

At DC Superman was reinvented to be the "X-Men," and Clark Kent was reinvented to be Peter Parker.
@Robert_Douglass7 жыл бұрын
Hey, different strokes for different folks. I don't know about you, but I happen to like dark and gritty, it gives the film a greater sense of realism in a dark and gritty world. Let's face it, Superman was supposed to be all about Truth, Justice and the American way. That was a long time ago, and nowadays there aren't that many people anymore that are particularly fond of the American way. Kal-El stands for Truth and Justice still, but instead of calling it the American way, he may call it the American Ideal.

OMFG thanks Andre this clip meant alot to me. I kept asking myself how could he go to Krypton if it was destroyed? Apparently not all of it! BRYAN SINGER IF U CAN SEE MY COMMENT, PLS TRY TO HAVE THIS SCENE (and the ship burial on Earth) PUT BACK IN RIGHT AFTER LEX LEAVES THE MANSION (wigs and widowers...)!!! I can not believe this was left out of the movie. It would have gone a long way to help ppl understand why Superman left Earth... BTW i love this movie for it's soul, and really like MAN of STEEL for it's no apologies, hardcore take on what a god-like superhero's life would be...

Andre Johnston thank you for posting this clip. Second: This would have been Great on the big screen , but it slow build up to basic nothing could be a reason for it being cut. Of coarse my first though of this scene was, a play off on 2001 Space Od, & the slow build up they had on the movie "Alien." Third: I am hearing in the back of my brain TNG: Anti' matter engine is off line, full fusion power to the structure integrity fields." These were the last words spoken on Krypton before it's final fate. Fouth : If Superman's space craft does not fully clear the kryptonnite debrie field, would the ship's FTL "worm hole / quantum slipstream drive" drag more kryptonnite back to Earth with him ?

Thanks a lot for uploading this, Andre; just what I was looking for this morn. They should have left it in the movie (guess I need to pick up the extended version). Nitpick: John Ottman did the music (using many of Williams' themes). Highly recommend picking up the extended set! Cheers.
