This closing has the second variation of the instrumental theme that was used, the arrangement changes at 1:12 and is shorter in length than the first closing. The title of the theme is "Mayberry March", and was used as background music in the original TAGS.

Sometimes this theme song would play during Andy Griffith Show episodes. Watch _"The Sermon For Today,"_ episode and you'll hear it while they're sitting on Andy's front porch.

I just watched the first episode of Mayberry RFD (only because Andy was still in it. I still don't know if I wanna bother with the rest of the episodes). Somebody commented that this was the Walton house, and I realized that it WAS the Walton house when Aunt Bee came out the Kitchen door The inside of the house as you're going in the door looks the same as the Walton house, but the stairs going up doesn't look the same, and the Walton house never had a kitchen separate from the Living Room. I thought the Walton house was a real house?

I watched Mayberry RFD when it was first run 1968-71. I enjoyed it and wish it would be released on DVD now. I remember General Foods and their famous GF logo with the colorful dots. General Foods coffees included Maxwell House, Sanka and Brim. The good old days. Kraft bought General Foods around 1986 and ruined GF brands.

"Mayberry, R.F.D" was on television for three years on the CBS Television Network. Excellent Video Clip!! The show would have earned more credibility if the program had been opened as the following: "Mayberry, R.F.D -- A Lorimar Production" in the 1969-1970 Television Season ... and stayed there until the end of the 1971-1972 Television Season. A Solid 5!!

Rural Free Delivery. Which means they will deliver your mail right to your mail box in the country at no additional charge in some places at the time, then to have to pick up your mail at the post office, if you live too far out in the country.
@alwrig13 жыл бұрын
Yeah, wanted to shed their rural image. And then a year later, here come the Waltons! In fairness, though, the Waltons, though in a rural setting, was a family drama, unlike the slew or rural comedies on CBS airwaves throughout the 60s and early 70s.

when LASSIE and HEE-HAW were cancelled that same year, they simply moved into first-run syndication. I don't know how much longer LASSIE ran but HEE-HAW ran until sometime in the 80s.
@vjmlhds5 жыл бұрын
Lassie ran for 2 years (71-73) in syndication. After spending her last CBS year traveling around as a "Littlest Hobo" type, she spent her 2 syndicated years living on a ranch, where the owner took in orphan boys and there was a deaf neighbor girl. Hee-Haw ran until 1992. They kept pretty much the same format until the last couple of years, when they tried to jazz it up a bit and make it more "city friendly".
@vjmlhds11 жыл бұрын
To call it a "rural purge" is a little misleading. Cancelled by CBS in 1971: Mayberry RFD, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Hee-Haw, Lassie, Hogan's Heroes, Ed Sullivan, and Family Affair. They all weren't rural shows, but they were all safe, clean, G rated shows that CBS top man Fred Silverman felt weren't drawing the young urban demographic (but doing OK overall). So out they went and more adult, urban oriented, sophisticated stuff was brought in over the next couple of years, like All in the Family (and all it's spinoffs), MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Cannon, etc.
@starey19 жыл бұрын
+vjmlhds they also canceled THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW that same year.
@vjmlhds9 жыл бұрын
+star trek Correct. Same idea as all the other shows that got axed - safe/clean/G rated out; edgy/mature/sophisticated in. And even though it wasn't cancelled right away, the Doris Day Show completely revamped itself to adapt with the new style - farm/kids/dog out; Doris the swinging single career woman about town in.
@ChadQuick270W9 жыл бұрын
So true. The only G rated show to survive the "purge" was Here's Lucy as I suppose Lucille Ball had a lot of clout and season three of Here's Lucy was ranked third overall for the 1970-1971 season I do believe
@vjmlhds9 жыл бұрын
+Chad Quick Doris Day also "survived", but was completely overhauled. Lucy though was the only one to survive and remain "true to itself", and not try to keep up with the new kids.
@ChadQuick270W9 жыл бұрын
That's true. The Doris Day Show seemed to change every season. Could be how I forgot about it surviving the purge.

@stflaw11 жыл бұрын
Mayberry RFD's cancellation was part of the whole move away from "rural" shows. RFD, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction and others all got axed at around the same time because researchers convinced network executives that these shows weren't attracting the "right kind" of demographics for advertisers.
