Please note both pilots are no longer alive. Captain Reyes retired on 2002, died from cancer at 2007. FO Jaime promoted to Captain last position before retirement 2008, also died at March 2021 from age. Both were honored by the president himself back then and should be remembered as great pilots. The interview of both pilots in this video was made on 2004/2005, so it is memorable last moments especially for Reyes to public.

The crew were really lucky the explosion didn't reach the center wing tank because if that happens then the crew and passengers onboard the Philippine Airlines flight wouldn't stand a chance. For the Flight Crew they all work together as a team to land the crippled plane by landing at a nearby airport and due to disabled flight controls they use the throttles to steer the plane similar to UA 232 but the difference is that the crew successfully landed the plane, a real true show and test of Crew Resource Management/Cockpit Resource Management (CRM).
@jamesstreet8563 жыл бұрын
The PAL crew had some control (little but some) over this flight. UA 232 had NOTHING. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. They lost all 3 hydraulic systems and all hydraulic fluid on that death trap DC10. All they had to control the plane with was the engines. Several pilots tried to recreate the scenario of UA 232 in a simulator and none managed to even make it to the airport. Most crashed shortly after the catastrophic, uncontained engine failure. The blessing UA 232 had was UA pilot Denny Fitch who had studied and trained in the flight simulator for countless hours for this very thing--total loss of ALL hydraulics. He's probably the only pilot in the world who could have done what he did and he just happened to be on that flight. Nonetheless, both these aircrews showed bravery, determination and skill that resulted in the saving of many lives. Bless those who are still with us and RIP to those who have passed on.
@pickles31283 жыл бұрын
@@jamesstreet856 Dennis Fitch is my personal hero. I only feel horrible for that flight attendant who was trained to tell parents to put their babies on the ground -- babies that died. You can tell that really affected her.
@thedeviouspanda2 жыл бұрын
@@pickles3128 I had a college professor who was on that flight. She had gotten the ticket from someone who wasn't going to be able to go on their vacation. She told us there was a woman with a baby who wasn't sure she should listen to the flight attendants and put the baby on the ground and was screaming that she didn't know what to do, and our professor said she yelled at her to just hold the kid because they were all going down anyway and dropped an f-bomb in there somewhere. She ended up severely injured, her back was broken and I think both legs too. She walked away from the crash site in shock. People found her obviously injured and asked her to tell them what happened and she didn't know. The only thing she could think of that would put her in that state was a car crash, so she guessed that she must have been in a car accident. She didn't remember she had been in a plane crash until later in the hospital.

I was flying back home from California to Wyoming and since kids don’t have to take their shoes off in airport security, I thought I didn’t have to cause I’m a minor (I’m sixteen) so I said, “I’m a minor so I don’t have to take my shoes off!” And the whole airport security started laughing. But I still had to take my shoes off cause I’m older. So I did and I listened. The pilots onboard this flight are heroes! Sadly two of them died. One died in 2007 and the other died in 2021. Respect to All great MEN and WOMEN pilots who fly us across the world safely. But Somehow it seems that when it comes to these situations, the pilots who were Ex Air Force seems to be heroic over the others.

The pilots did a fantastic job but why is someone NOT proficient in English working as an air traffic controller? Those seconds wasted swapping controllers could've been disastrous
