Just picked our friends pear tree. I did spiced pears. It is a sweetened pickling brine with cinnamon, allspice, cloves & cardamom. So delicious. I did sweetened pears & pearsauce last year & still have some.

It really is easy. It can seem intimidating but once you do it you realize how easy it is and wonder why everyone isn’t doing it all the time. lol

I had a very tall old pear tree that had small hard pears. Since they were small, I just made pear vinegar. Wonderful vinegar!

if you use brown sugar an a pad or two of butter ... the pears should get a butterscotch flavour .... and the juice can be rendered down further fora nice thick syrup for pancakes or ice cream and pears ...or hot pear turnovers ... add icing sugar (superfine ground sugar same difference if you dont mind grinding your own sugar) ...and make it into icing for cupcakes and cakes etc yeah did this with Gran very often ... best pear cobbler ever

i like you so im going to give you a Christmas treat. ( I know it August. But this is for Adult Christmas gifts) This works with apples peaches, pears .... Fruits. You make them just like yoy did prior to the water bath. After you put the fruit in but before you put the syrup in. Go ahead and mesure how much syrup you have. Add warm water until its how much empty jars you have. Bring to a boil while stiring. Once a boil let cool. Once to room tempatute. Add 1 tra spoon of baker yeast. Stir good. Let sit for a minute. Now. Clean rum if jars. BUT DO NOT USE VINIGAR . You can use a high proof alcohol instead . Now fill with the " sryup". Pur lid on with screw top. But do not screw all the wat down. No water batching it will ruin it. Put jats inna dark cool place. But not frozen 50 -70 degrees if possible. 30 days later. Screw down lib. Check 2 days later for bubbles If you see bubbles lift lid and put back on. And repeat every 2 days until no new bubles. You just made a alcohol fruit mix. I dont know how long it will keep. Most are ate in the first year This was a proabition receipt. Lol. As for the Alcohol content. Well i know little old ladies in Wisconsin during proabition could keep thier " preserves'" in stock. My grandparents use to crack up Everytime the Sister were on the Walktons ( tv series) with thier receipt. Evidently my great Grandma and her sister supplied a large amount of Wisconsin with thier preservers. From the late teens of 1900s to WWII. NOW you think i come from a bunchnof Alcoholics. Actually no on that side they rately drank. On the other side though. My grand mother drank white russians every night. As a teen i learned how to make and distil spirits. One brother at worse is a boardline functional alcoholic. We all drink sometimes. But exvept the one brother once out of teens. A couple times a year Now as a teen. Oh yeah i drank a lot. Freshman to junior year. Then. I just stopped. No reason i just one day stopped making. And stop selling gasoline. My last batch of mash i never picked up. At some point. Someone came across a buried glass water jug with something weird in it. 23 years later i drove by where it was . And houses sat there. Lol. But likely it was just bull dozer over and no one ever found it. Anyhow hope my preserves gives someone some joy. If you are wonder just how much About like a good beer or glass of wine. Everything in the jar. Like 3 glasses of wine or beer.

Btw. Watch the bubbles. If you don't then if it's still fermenting. It will explode. Lol. My wife wanted Mead. So I helped her make a couple 1 gallon wine jars of it. Well. We did the water bubble thing . For a month. Now I never had a problem. Before. When I made stuff years before. I distilled and it was done fermenting when I bottled it. And used shortly after. So thier we are sitting on the couch watching JAG. And KABOOM. a bottle exploded all over the kitchen. One heck of mess. Wifey ask what happened. I started laughing as I burped the other two bottles. Uhh it wasn't done fermenting.. We still had our "church party" just instead of 2 bottles it was one.

My first time canning from a tree we have had for years and frightened that I am going to mess up. Explain again the step with the rim off before shelving the jars. What did I miss . When did you go back and tighten the jars after you finger tighten them
@emmylou92302 ай бұрын
If the rim is left on, and it did not seal correctly, (creating a false seal). it could potentially grow deadly bacteria. Leaving the rim off will allow you to check your seals before using.
