Finally, someone that knows how and Clips their Chickens Properly, something else You should mention, and it does happen, if You do accidently cut above the Blood Line, immediately Pull that Feather because it will Bleed Profusely, when You pull that feather it stops the Bleeding. Very good Video Young Lady, thanks for sharing.. :D

Came back to say thanks. I had never had to do this before as my flock was pretty content inside their electric netting (safe from foxes) but I've had a few new additions from the neighbours (who moved out) and a couple of hens have repeatedly flown over and out the fencing. It was super easy to clip the culprits and has done the job of keeping them in!

The perfect video. So concise! We're not allowed to let our chickens out at the moment because of an Avian Flu outbreak here in the UK, but I'm so keen to let the rescue chickens out into our run as soon as possible without them getting targeted by the local foxes.

I just found your channel by searching how to clip chicken wings. I must say I was astounded by how beautiful you are! I'm a happily married woman but I believe in building other women up because we tend to be so self critical, or at least I do. Thanks for the great informative video. I'm a fairly new chicken owner and I have a problem with a neighbor's dog trying to kill my chickens. She's already mangled 3 of them but they are apparently tough birds because I'm treating their wounds and keeping them bandaged and they seem to be ok. But that dog is going to die!!! I've warned the neighbor twice now about her dog. My chickens were free ranging in my yard and not bothering anyone. Her dog decided it wanted to have my chickens for dinner when it got loose. The first time I warned her I would shoot her dog if it came in my yard again. The second time I wasn't home when it got loose and it mangled my two hens. They both have quarter sized wounds on them. So, I spent over $500 on a Premier One electric netting fence to keep them safe. The dog got loose AGAIN Saturday and headed straight for my chickens. Luckily the fence deterred her but she was trying her best to figure out how to get to my chickens. This time my husband came out of the house with his rifle. The neighbor said, "you better not kill my dog" while her dog is doing it's best to get to my chickens. I'm very attached to my chickens. They aren't just chickens to me. They have names and I spoil them rotten. They are my pets. While the dog was trying to figure out how to get to my chickens, they were flying up in the air because they were scared. If they had accidentally flown over the fence, the dog would have gotten them. So, I need to clip their wings. Will they still be able to fly up onto their perch in the coop? It's only about 2 ft from the bottom.

Do you ever worry that clipping the wings makes it more difficult for them to escape a predator? Obviously not against a hawk, but we have a dog that sometimes wanders over. The chickens are usually in a pen, but sometimes we let them out to free range for a short while and it would only take a quick second with our backs turned for a dog or fox to chase one down.
@SurvivalHT7 жыл бұрын
+Finland Farm there's no reason to clip free rang wings but for pin raised its safer to keep them clipped. The odds of one getting attacked for the short time you let them out with you watching are far less then the odds of them getting killed because they flew out of the pin and wandered the yard all day with no one around
@finlandfarm16747 жыл бұрын
Good point. I guess we just can't eliminate all risks, can we. Thanks for the vid.
@MrPolecat7 жыл бұрын
In my limited experience with free-range chickens as a kid, the predators are already way smarter than the chickens, and you are done if they get to them, regardless of clipping. The only way we were ever able to keep the predators out was to sit up at night with a spotlight and shoot them, and even that was only marginally effective. And that's why we no longer keep free range chickens, lol.
@brokenwolf677 жыл бұрын
simple remedy . . . shoot the dog , people should keep their dog's on their own property not roaming around killing people's livestock
@s.lynnmckay31224 жыл бұрын
I'm going to clip our chickens wings because they're bantams that can fly over our 6' privacy fence. I don't want a wandering dog, the neighbor's dog, or another person to grab them while out.
