Gorgeous design to begin with. I love the curves and lines of this old piece, but that it does double duty and opens up is a bonus. Your respect of vintage furniture and love/skill of bringing things back to life is evident. I loved the background story. I'm sad for the passing of the father, but he sees this finished piece and I believe he is quite pleased. This was so satisfying, the before and after were such a difference. I love the 2-tone colors, especially with the satin finish. The beautiful old grain in the oak stands out perfectly with the finish. This is a unique, well built piece, I'm so glad we got to observe the restoration of this truly gorgeous piece of furniture.

This has been a sad day on KZbin. The beautiful wife of another KZbinr I follow passed away unexpectedly, and then your client's father. I am so glad you got this table looking so spectacularly beautiful! That and a minute with Daisy cheered me up immensely! Thank you. By the way, mixing baking soda and vinegar, when done in balanced amounts, results in carbon dioxide- the bubbles released - and water. I don't know why people recommend mixing them when you don't need the pressure as you would if you used it for a drain opener. I hope you are having a lovely day and thanks again!

Beautiful restoration. I appreciate fine fabrics and textiles. I’m glad you cleaned and preserved the original felt lining because it is likely thick pure wool felt, which isn’t as readily available in most retail stores. The synthetic felt purchased today would never have withstood the rigorous scrubbing.

👍Top work fella. Always good to do ‘proper’ restoration. Over the past few years I’ve seen a steady increase in the amount of requests for painting and revamping. Nothing wrong with it, and of cause, some items would end up in the skip if we didn’t, however restoration in the true sense is where I get the most satisfaction. I do have a question that I ask fellow restorers and that is, have you ever had someone bring you an antique piece insisting you paint it and you advise them against it but they are adamant so you point blank refuse. 🤔. Oh, I have only ever had one answer to this question😉

Thanks Dan. I’ll be honest in that I just love working with old furniture and hopefully saving it from being skipped like you say. I don’t really prefer one or the other but some pieces just ‘need’ to be restored rather than restyled with paint etc. I have had the odd instance where a customer wanted me to paint but I persuaded them that it wouldn’t be the right way to go and they’ve trusted my judgement. I haven’t had to point blank refuse anyone yet but If it was a ‘proper’ antique then I definitely wouldn’t paint it, so if they insisted I’d be ok telling them it’s not for me. I’ve actually got an antique Bobbin chair in my stock that I’m still trying to find some background on. I certainly won’t be painting it and i’m thinking of trying the Howard’s restor a finish on it and maybe reupholstering the seat. 😀😀👍

To be fair, most people do not realise their item is an antique or of decent enough quality to restore or preserve. It’s funny how when a piece isn’t of particular sentimental value and you tell them it’s worth more left alone rather than painted they soon go off the idea 💷😉

Love it. I liked the ebony stain. I never would have thought of that to contrast with the walnut stain.

Hi, David. Eric here from New England. I just started recently watching your channel and I am hooked. Thank you so much for the very high-quality videos. Really enjoy watching the transformations. You do great work! I have a piece that I bought about 15 years ago or so and you have inspired me to do something with it. I did a quick restore on it years ago and I am by no means a professional, but after many moves it’s in need of refreshing. Wish I could show a picture of it here, but oh well. Hi David, thanks for replying! Yes, I live near the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area. If you ever get over to the states, it’s a nice area to visit in the summertime. At any rate, I’ve also done a little work with old wooden drums. If you ever get the opportunity to do that or another antique wooden instrument, I’m sure you would do an amazing job.
