Mayim, your self-perception reminds me of my own. I also had thyroid issues--Graves Disease that flipped into Hashimoto's at menopause. I have to ask you to ask yourself (you need not be accountable to me!) what happened in your childhood that might have triggered that negativity about yourself? I had a narcissistic mother who constantly complained about everything about myself. I was very creative and talented but my mother would say, who ever told you you could sing/act/write? Well, Gene Roddenberry, for one, and other famous writers for another, and other actors and singers. But I couldn't hear their voices because my mother's voice was the loudest and most constant. My mother simultaneously wanted to live through me and was completely jealous of me and did everything she could to prevent me from having any success. So I've struggled with my self-perception and can't really accept compliments to this day and I'm pushing 70.

I love that Kelly isn't glammed up for this. She is gorgeous. And what makes these Breakdown podcasts special is that we get to see celebrities as people. She isn't Kelly Clarkson the entertainer right now. She is Kelly Clarkson the human being. I watched the one with Oliver Hudson and Will Wheaton and Kunal. We got to see them being themselves along with their vulnerability. The world needs this. The world needs to remember that celebrities are people first. Intelligent human beings as that. It is humbling. We see celebrities on talk shows but it's not like this. It is staged and mostly a PR stunt. Furthermore we are learning about ourselves through all of this. ❤💖

I think the difference between these two strong women and their self-confidence is the age when they began working in the industry. Although K was just out of high school, there is a vast difference between a 19-year-old's and a 12-year-old's ability to stand up and learn to set boundaries. M probably had to do what she was told to do a lot more while in the public eye. I love both of these strong ladies and wish them well.

Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you have discussed such an important topic of thyroid conditions and adrenal fatigue. As a homeopath and acupuncturist, we always see the link between adrenal and thyroid health, and how they all control different parts of the immune system. Even the link between endocrine disorders and MTHFR gene. And both conditions have a link to trauma. And for the longest time, general medicine has rolled their eyes. Hopefully, the more people speak about this, the more it will be highlighted.

Mayim, even if you don't think you are on the same popularity train, which you are, look at all the people you have reached, helped, touched, and lifted up, just by seeing/hearing you. In all you have done, your energy lifts people. It's not about what you wear, or how you look. You are beautiful, just the way you are. We create with our thoughts, the more you allow yourself to be in a place of self-doubt, worry, and fear, the more you create. When you know that happiness has nothing to do with any other human on the planet, it is simply where you allow your thoughts in the moment. You can then choose to consciously take your thoughts to things that make you smile and happy instead. Create a new habit. Then you too can have the Kellytude and the inner power and peace. Also, when you think something and your gut goes icky, that is your internal guidance telling you that your thinking wrong. Consciously correct that. So, live consciously, connect with your higher self, and be yourself authentically. Laughter, playfulness, joy these are good things you bring to people, please see how you lift people, and get excited. Life is as good as you choose it to be. Abundant blessings to you always. Much love.

Sometimes, people can be told all these things repeatedly (as Mayim has been), but aren't able to hear it. Because of prior experience as a child, life stress, and other reasons. There are non-medication techniques for addressing this via the body (because the intellect has little to do with it), that Mayim can try when she's ready. Because you have to be ready -- it's not for the fainthearted. I hope she will.

I absolutely love how both of these amazing women are encouraging eachother to be who they are and own it and believe in it! And to kick it all off they encourage US to do they same!!

You three are a breath of fresh air. I’ve always loved Kelly’s music. And now I love her for herself, being real and not giving a flying f. And Mayim you have always been a favorite of mine!

It looks like Mayim has meshed her self-criticism with her identity and that she rejects others' attempts to help her see a different angle for that reason. When we adopt a self-image, we set out affirm it through other people. Tragically, it obviously doesn't help her to be told how great she is - instead, it seems to make her feel worse. Maybe that's because if none of these negative thoughts are true, all the suffering that has already been had - would have been for nothing. As phenomenal as therapy is, and as complex as some problems can be - a problem when people stay in it for so long that there's no distinguishable graduation point; sometimes our problems give us some kind of purpose or reward that makes the struggle seem worthwhile. I'm a long-time therapy-seeker as well and I also have an education adjacent to the field, that's how I know. It's painful to watch, really! I would say that I hope Mayim's therapist will be able to support her in climbing out of that mindset, but Mayim would have to genuinely want to. She clearly identifies all the things she loathes about her career/LA environment but she's as adamant about all those standards somehow being valid. In German, there's a saying for a mindset that translates to "it cannot be what must not be"; it's used when sometimes someone will furiously hyperfocus on things outside of their control and get extremely worked up about it, but do nothing to alter the course; it's almost like when a superhero will keep their nemesis alive because it creates an energetic equilibrium of tension, and an immediate feedback loop that ensures there is no pause. For all the space this occupies, there surely is something else that's very effectively being pushed to the side. What would it mean for Mayim if she accepted herself, what would happen if she did, why would that be so bad? These are questions only she can answer to herself and maybe she's not ready for it. I hold out hope and wish her the best.

I truly hope you're a therapist because you are spot on! Very well articulated. I do wonder if Mayim has ever contemplated what acceptance of herself would look and feel like. I think I'm going to take that as my new mantra into different aspects of my own journey. I liken it to not having ones phone. It's become an intergal part of who I am and how I go about my day. Without access to it I wonder how my day would look. Anyways, thank you for your insight, you seem to truly have a gift.

Where can I sign up for a therapy session with Kelly Clarkson?

I heard someone say at a conference once, listen to the people that are on the bench with you, listen to your coach, your trainer, don’t listen to the people sitting in the nose bleed seats, they don’t know you and they don’t matter.

This is by far the best podcast episode ever!! I agree with Kelly, I'm just too lazy to give a f*** about what anyone thinks of me. And I think that attitude can be very helpful for tons of people. I love being weird with you is also a good attitude to have. People are trying too hard to fit into "the norm"

Thank you Kelly Clarkson for having such an amazing attitude and sharing it with us all! Mayim you ARE a bad ass and we LOVE you!!! Jonathan you are an awesome partner! Yes, supplements, support, lifestyle changes, food, etc. for better health. We all need to hear more of this! Thanks for another fabulous Breakdown!

MAYIM!!! I think we ALL struggle with seeing ourselves like others do simply bc we live with ourselves day to day unlike others and can see the "imperfections" under a microscope in the day to day. BUT bc of how authentic you are, I'm confidant in saying most of us want you to see what we see and that's an intelligent, beautifully brilliant, authentic, erergy-filled force that is to be reckoned with. And I hope and pray for the day I get to live in a world surrounded by women EXACTLY like you (and Kelly!!!!).

I'm just now starting this video but I've always loved Kelly, I'm a 34 year old gay dude and I grew up in a small town in West Virginia, I never became famous but I've always felt like Kelly would've been someone i'd be great friends with, something about her reminds me SO much of myself. In fact I worked with a girl who met Kelly at a show years ago, told me I reminded her of Kelly Clarkson, which was so random ... Same with Mayim.. I remember watching Blossom while hanging in the living room with my sister who is 5 years older who wanted to BE Blossom lol.

I love your interviews in general, and there have been some really good ones. But this one with Kelly Clarkson was by and far the very best. Her attitude and self acceptance is inspiring. And her honesty and down to earth nature are both relatable and refreshing. And I gotta say, Mayim, she challenged you on a few points, and I think she made you squirm a little! Maybe that was a good thing? And boy, does Jonathan get you! Keep up the great work. I learn so much with every video.

Kelly Clarkson, I watched your progress through the first year of American Idol. I saw how you were teamed with girls that weren't serious, so you went off on your own to practice. I've been a fan since those days, when we had to wait every week to see/experience the next show, and we had commercials!! LOL...I was rooting for you, the whole season! You are NOT lazy. You were staying in your car to pursue your dream, and your hard work and dedication earned your title of the Original American Idol. You are AMAZING!!! Thank you for always being true to yourself, never being ashamed of real life, speaking about it, and showing the world that honest integrity is powerful, beautiful, and magnanimous.
