Amber Tamblyn (actress, director, and writer) joins us to discuss all things intuition, from its biological importance and practical ways to be in touch with it, to how modern society has taught us to ignore our intuition and our mind-body connection. She explains why intuition often gets mistaken for anxiety, why feminism matters, the power of the MeToo Movement, and the real societal repercussions of women’s inequality. We also analyze Amber’s recurring wolf dreams, the significance of recurring dreams and consider what it means to redefine the term "psychic."

I always look at it as this - If you make a decision based on a feeling of "fear", that's your anxiety choosing. If you make a decision based on a "knowing" (your gut feeling), that's your intuition choosing.

This episode was amazing. I was simply mesmerized by the topics. I’ve seen Amber Tamblyn on movies before but i didn’t know she was a writer as well, definitely will check her books out cause i was fascinated listening her speak.❤ Hearing the kinda “gender” discussion mid episode plus Mayim’s considerations at the end reminded me of a quote from “Women Who Run With the Wolves”: “This early training to "be nice" causes women to override their intuitions. In that sense, they are actually purposefully taught to submit to the predator. Imagine a wolf mother teaching her young to "be nice" in the face of an angry ferret or a wily diamondback rattler.” - Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

I personally don't think intuition feels like excitement or joy. In my experience, it's been entirely neutral. It seems soft, gentle, and almost distant, but the most important distinction between anxiety and intuition is that the voice of intuition is not attached to any outcome. It's a steady, neutral knowing, and not attached to either a positive or a negative feeling.

This was an interesting podcast. How far we have NOT come… I was in high school in the early 70’s and was so full of hope and confidence about positive movement forward. Now I’m in my mid60’s tired, saddened, appalled, I actually can’t come up with a word to describe how I feel about the country today. BUT listening to Amber and Jonathan and Mayim, optimistically reminded me to listen and act with visions, dreams, and gut feelings I thought I had given up on. Great discussion… thank you.

This episode was fascinating. As someone whose baseline is usually anxiety driven (lol), I can really relate to the conversation you both have at the end. Especially about experiences as a woman, and not removing myself from a situation that I intuitively know I shouldn't be apart of but the anxiety overrides that feeling and I stay. I hope that makes sense! You've really given me a lot to think about :)

This was a very meaningful episode to me. For many reasons, thank you for doing this episode/topic. Also, I have always told my children to follow their gut..."gut don't lie"....so often children are told to not follow "those " feelings....made to hug the creepy neighbor, be nice to the person that makes them feel weird. I told my kids no, don't do that...follow your gut...if something feels off, it is. Listen to that.

Great podcast, yet another double watcher. I have always felt that intuition is at the core of our self-knowledge and the more we listen, the more acute this inner hearing becomes, not only for ourselves but for those around us, that we care about. I would love to hear both your and Jonathan's thoughts as to whether or not you have ever recognized the fact that most creative individuals have a very strong characteristic of intuitive empathy. (Am I being redundant?) I certainly find and believe this to be so.

intuition and dreams, two of my favorite topics :) intuition is something we all can have access to, but I've seen that not everyone feels the desire to develop that ability; at any rate, the process to cultivate it is the same as for anything else.. practice, practice, practice. specifically, become more and more aware of what you sense, feel, somehow 'know', listen to that, listen to your inner voice about their meaning, and then see how that makes sense in your world, within or without. as for dreams, when I was younger I took classes of Jungian dreams' analysis (as developed by Jung's daughter) and I still think that that school of thought on the matter is the best out there. for those who want to get more in touch with their dream world, the first thing to do is beginning to write your dreams as soon as you wake up, no other distractions before writing down them, they can literally evaporate quickly even if at first they are still vivid in our minds. if you keep doing it consistently, soon you'll notice that you begin to remember your dreams more often, and they become more complex. it's something i loved to notice when it happened to me, because it depends on the fact that our unconscious gets that we finally give it our attention, and so it becomes to 'talk' to us more and more! it's a beautiful feeling knowing that now you communicate with part of yourself :) ahh, there'd be much more to say about dream's analysis, for example that there are different kind of dreams, from those that just mirror something that we experienced that day, to those called 'sacred', usually filled with archetypes we didn't even know we knew about.. mostly, however, our dreams use symbols, metaphors, images that have a different meaning than their appearance. famously, sex dreams usually talk more about our relationship with ourselves than sex with someone else, while (you know this already, i'm sure) vegetables, sticks, snakes, etc are actually dreams about sex, hehe! enjoy your wake and bedtime!!

As someone with Aphantasia and Anauralia (no internal images or voice) I think I have naturally kept my intuition more than most. There are times where I have ignored or not identified my intuitive “voice” but I definitely feel that I have kept my intuition at the forefront of my decision making and it has helped me a lot over the years. I know that I am often looked to for advice from others, and I think that has a lot to do with my ability to use my intuition more than the “general population”- they don’t always listen when I give my advice but that is up to them. Aphantasia and Anauralia can be a hindrance in some areas but I have found it interesting to learn more about my brain and that of those with a more “normal” brain and I have found many positives in the way my brain works.

Love, love, love this topic! ❤ Brilliant conversation! Sounds like a fantastic book. If you want to learn how to discern your intuition (your personal direct connection to Source) from fear or ego, the most efficient way is to take a class on clairvoyance. Work with an experienced clairvoyant because their connection to intuition is akin to the physical abilities of professional athletes. Sure, you can read a book, but working with someone and learning to trust your intuition will get you there a thousand times faster and will impact your life in wonderful ways. Worked for me. And about things like Tarot cards, they are a tool that people use to access intuition and information. Some people are practiced and talented with accessing their intuition and connecting to your energy field in this way, and some not so much.

A question to all three at the episode but specially to JC: How can listening to intuition be trained? How can we be trained to discern between ‘good intuition’ or gut-feeling emotions and ‘bad intuition’ ruled by anxiety and fear in a world full of so much ‘noisy’ inputs? Maybe re-studing from a much more open, modern and mature point of view all related to women emotions? Bc intuitive decission making is naturally developed by women as mothers & caretakers during centuries & precisely bc that weaponized by the patriarchy ruling during History till today. Maybe is the strong feeling of protection of a helpless creature in front of sudden threats that a mom have that developed the gut-feeling quick decission making in women? Something so intrinsically at first related to females & denied to men, that it was derogatorily called once as "hysterical" bc related to uterus (hystera)? Is it maybe related to empathy? As Amber pointed at Mayim question, “we need to talk ab all this specially now”! OMG!..How I’ve enjoyed this reassuring but also intriguing & full of questions episode!

We all are neurodivergent thinkers too. We have ADHD, Giftedness, OCD and creative talent, strong empathy in our family, and very sensitive people. So I wonder if that makes us more connected to things. Also pretty sure there are gut issues/ leaky gut/ and food sensitivity and allergies. Of course gut-brain connexion exist! I call it “non-conscious emotional information”. And it’s as valuable information as the one rational thinking gives you. Word of who isn’t a scientist, but a humble architect trained to work with imagination/rationality duo, that ended being a decision-maker under intuition mostly over rational reasoning, to a point that I’m sure that in ancient times I would have ended burnt in a pyre by “The Powers That Be” then.. In a way, as much older I become I’m getting better in letting “non-conscious emotional information” rule (asking myself if that’s the reason why witches and wizzards are always represented as old beings by those wanting to silence something they didn’t understant and escape their knowledge during centuries..? Great episode that resonates A LOT in me! TNX! ❤

I would love to see a BIPOC womens rights leader be a guest and speak on their experience and perspective regarding womens issues. Although the topics in this episode are so important, I had a hard time empathizing with Amber as lot of the issues mentioned are not always "all women" based. Unfortunately throughout history WOC were left out of these movements where white women have had a step ahead in society or where they have not faced nearly the same oppression of black/brown women. For example, Indigenous women alone are under an epidemic being murdered or sex trafficked at a rate 10x more than white women. There is a history of Black and Brown women being sterilized against their will, or how "women" were granted the right to vote in 1920 but Native American women were actually not allowed to vote until the 1960's-70's. So although yes we as women face similar challenges in society, these challenges do not affect ALL women the same. Amber is of course very knowledgeable and passionate in what she does for women, absolutely no hate on her at all, It's just womens rights are viewed through a different lens and perspective by WOC. For many of us, our female ancestors were raped, enslaved, trafficked (for generations) and that trauma is in our DNA.

Oooo interesting. I feel like I often try to follow my gut on things. Say things or do things when I think of it. I will see something happening if I don't do something. Example. If I don't pick that up someone will trip or that thing will break. But I also don't always do it and later on usually shortly after the same day the thing breaks or gets tripped over. I am often right... So I try to follow through when I think those things... But I also forget things on the way to do them. And if I think I need to tell someone something I try to tell them.

New flash- it can be waaaay longer than 10 years. I’m at 20 now. I believe it’s important to share that there’s no formula so we can each own our experience

I feel it's the Holy Spirit here on Earth, and I think most people these days call it a gut feeling, and I know at least for myself regarding Wolves was a book that in the 80's in elementary school was a book in the California student reading was a book called the " The Island of the blue Dolphins" about a young girl who had a bound with a Wolf who protected her. It's the only book I loved regarding in 3rd o 4th grade. And again in adult life I watched the movie " Training Day" the wolf was brought up again as a symbol, to be brave, and its OK to be a Lone Wolf and Wolves respect there pack, and that is to myself my family and those who we chose to be part of our packs, to have forgiveness and yet its OK to protect your rights regarding your own place in your own pack.

A thought: if you were ever read, or saw the jungle book, when you were a child, you might’ve seen the wolf as a, or ‘the’, creature that protects children when a parent or adult abandon them ? ? ?

Isn't tuition just brain function that doesn't result in conscious thought? And as such can't really be tested as to what biases it is made from?

She had me right up until 24:46. SMH! We as adults cannot allow children do things to their bodies that will affect them for the rest of their lives until they are full capable of understanding what that means and lets be honest, a lot of kids used to think at one point growing up that they could fly off the roof of the barn, it didn't mean they really could. BUT it did mean it made men like the Oliver brothers who did fly off the barn found a way when they grew up and understood life and it's limits. Amber made a lot of good points but she is very wrong in this issue. Sorry if it upsets you Amber, but facts are facts. Children's brain are not fully developed and hell at one point, my grand children played being a dog for a while. They loved the game. SMH! They don't think that way anymore and I am sure they are very thankful that we didn't make them sleep outside or on the floor and eat out of an bowl on the floor and pet them like dogs. Feelings are just that, feelings.

I love the faith in therapy. But if you cannot afford it you cannot access it. Let’s make a fairer society and give good quality and short therapy that makes people function.

really interesting, but the first ~17minutes are a waste of time (no meaningful content except "these experts are great, please read their stuff"). You can cut the first 17mins and the podcast would be just as valuable.

What if there was a podcast that has commercials every 5 min ??? Geez really i get it but at least pack them together so we feel a bit better when listening. Everyone would rather have longer segments of commercials instead of many smaller segments -I can barely listen - more money more money more more more - geez
