Oh, my goodness. I needed this. I quit my job in Dec. 2017 at 58-yo to take care of my mom and dad. Mom couldn't talk, stand or walk from a massive stroke and dad was losing ground and falling from TIAs. Dad passed June 7 and Mom Aug. 30, both 2019, five months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. I'm working part-time trying to recover for my retirement years now at 63, thankfully the "thing that happened" came along so I could work from home. I'm anxious to see this movie!! I've been building toward a plant nursery and a small flower farm for my retirement income. Life has room for new growth after the storm no matter your stage in life! 💜

I grew up in a very unstable home and with a sick mother. I remember the days, weeks and sometimes months spent at the hospitals, the times she had to leave the house in an ambulance, her screams in bed, just laying in pain. It was hard to leave home when I had to and still feel the guilty about it sometimes. My parents are both and have always been mentally ill but refuse to get help for it, I love them but my childhood was scarring. I can relate to this so much, I can't wait to see it, thank you to the both of you and the entire cast💜

I have to be honest. When I saw the trailer for the film, I had no idea who the girl was. And then when I looked on IMDB and it was Quinn from Glee, I was shocked. You know she's a great actress when you hate her in the role she played in Glee. I'm excited to see this film. This podcast makes it feel like its the real questions of their lives. And not just all the same 5 questions you hear on talk shows. I wish Dianna all the best in her career and life.

Speaking of shows Mayim needs to take over... Inside the Actors Studio. Certainly her temperament and approach to giving a safe space for innermost expression of the actor's innermost self makes for a powerful set of episodes. And again thank you for the Kal Penn episode as well as this one. So engrossing.

@Mayim, I don't listen to a lot of podcasts no matter how much I may enjoy the host(s) because I have a short attention span - SQUIRREL! But I listen to every moment of your podcasts as they are so interesting I am constantly engaged. In this one, post-show, in speaking about the things you learned about physically relaxing your body (one eye brow at a time, for instance) I was reminded of something called the Feldenkrais Method. I studied this while in uni in the mid-80. It was profound to me, being able to relax one half of my face w/out effecting the other half at all. I am glad you found something that helped you, too. And I am so grateful you make this podcast. Your conversations are a rise above the fodder of the rest. Thank you.

I just saw this movie. Heartbreaking. Human. Real. We live inside limbo, "between life and whatever follows". normalizing pain, surrender and acceptance. Sometimes, that's all we can hold on to... these amazing memories that are connected to everything we love. As I child, I thought pain was experiencing the exact moment of loss. As I grew, I understood, overwhelming hurt isn't instantaneous, it happens when life settles. Everything just continues to work... why? Humanity is missing out on so much... am I the only one aware? Is it only me?

Really liked the film. It had a quiet intensity. Dianna did a fantastic job in it and it’s not a subject that’s usually covered in a movie. And it really showed dysfunction well. How subtle and overt the nuances of family dysfunction affect a person.

I have to admit, I have also very recently become aware of tension and the way we hold it. I'm realizing that I hold tension in areas of my body that aren't even close to my neck, but as I am releasing said tension, I'm feeling the neck pain decrease overall. It's a really weird thing to think about in the middle of the day, but once you start releasing that tension, things improve. Holding that release, as it were, is easier said than done and if I stop thinking about it, part of me re-clenches again.

This ‘As They Made Us’ story, that many will think is related to a Jewish family, or to own Mayim’s one, has a great dose of “universality”. I can only say that from all aspects they (D & M & J) talked here and from the trailers I’ve watched, this story can be perfectly related to my five siblings Catholic & European rooted family. And that is exclusively Mayim’s, as screenwriter & Director, merit. BRAVO! 💜💜

“Life is not about what you say yes, but about what you say no”. This Dianna’s and Mayim’s motto..OMG! As Dianna says here, we all do know that Mayim was absolutely ready to take Director’s helmet. So, any possibility of “impostor syndrom” must be thown to the trash bin. I hope that ‘As They Made Us’ will be the first of many projects to come. After watching Mayim and Dianna’s convo here I hope this little gem 💎of film be distributed in my Europe and online streaming be not geolocalized and restricted only to the US!

Dear sis here we're as they made us, congrats for the great screenplay, ı know that you're also a remarkable director, and once again you directed this wondeful movie through your talents, Dustin Hoffman wow huge fan, this guy rocks, once again great acting performance, a touching beautiful movie, yes dear sis unfortunately sometimes life is not so easy and especially when we loose our loved ones or when we're abonded by our partners, sometimes love hurts and sometimes because of unfortunate diseases, accidental events, financial problems, libido problems when we're so horny, etc, you know, it's a sort of battlefield actually but there's not much we can do about it whereby we're here then somehow we have to deal with it no matter what right? I like these sort of family movies questioning our social and cultural structure, comman generation conflict, parental problems so on and so forth you know that ı've a herniation problem already your script is based on this fact obviously but ı'm a bit scared ı don't wann come face to face with the same problems with your fictional charachter, ı don't wanna get help just even for to pee for instance, that's kind of sad and horrifying oh my gosh ı'm truly so frightened god help us,god save us, we're the creative and intellectual jews of the universe., Dear Mr. Hoffman when you guys have been shooting that famous pandemic film you knew that it's about this pandemic exactly ,you had been referring to the present implicely,ı know it and you know it but the problem is most of the people don't know so is that fair? We The people dear sir right?
