Join Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile and Dáithí Gallagher on a day all things Mayo were celebrated. They were joined by a host of amazing guests including an exclusive performance by Matt Molloy, Laoise Kelly. We heard stories from all corners of the county and from Mayo people that are living abroad. We also had a very special performance by Billow Wood which includes an appearance by some very special guests. Lisa Canny performed for us from London.
TG4 brings this day of celebrations to new audiences supported by Mayo County Council and produced by Riverside for TG4 and Mayo County Council.

Even into his Seventies ... ànd Molloy gives a superb performance . Proof again ( if that were needed ) that the KING OF THE FLUTE - PLAYERS has not lost any of his technical brillance . GOOD ON YA MATT !!!

How does Matt overcome the problem of the low notes beyond the range of the flute in the A part of the Mayo Fling?

Certainly seems like there's a low C there and from the video it's clear her doesn't have a C foot. Interesting, I'm wondering if my ears are tricking me. It looks as though he's fingering a mid c..

So either A) Matt has a secret technique to play an octave lower, defying the laws of physics, this option wouldn't surprise me giving his skill. Or B) there's some level of dubbing on this video, maybe Matt re-recorded with a different flute for any of a variety of reasons
