I have always been attracted to the abyssals. They look so entrancing with their horns and chimeric minions.

I think its intentional, they're Sirens. No no, I ain't referencing Azur Lane, I'm talking about classical mythological Sirens, just instead of luring in sailors with their voice they lure them in with their beauty and drown them. Actual Sirens in myth came in both male and female form before the 15th Century made them just bird women, and they were bird-human hybrids (at least initially) that used their voices to entrance, entice and twist the perception of their victims to bring them in close and terminate them. In more modern depictions past the 15th Century, the myth made them look beautiful and even later, after some confusion and mixing with myths about Sea Nymphs (aka Nereids who came to the rescue of sailors so presumably they thought Sirens were Nereids' opposites or something), become less bird and more sea monster from the waist-down, invisible in the water so as to not scare off the entranced sailor and snap them out of the deadly trance, but the originals lured sailors in to their island to crash the ship on the shoreline and stagger in a trance to their deaths. Profoundly disturbing monsters, they are, and unfortunately its in their very nature too, so if Abyssals were made to mirror that, where Kanmusu are Nereids and the Abyssals are modern Sirens, there is no saving them, just putting them to rest and allowing their purified spirits to rise again as Nereids, as Kanmusu, through Summoning them.
