The skyactiv x works as follows. It can run like any other petrol when you have very little throttle input or are running at over 5500 rpm. Most of the time though it runs in its spark controlled compression ignition mode. In this state the engine runs on a lean air fuel mixture and a very high compression ratio. It compresses the lean mixture close to the point where the engine would start to knock, then a tiny amount of fuel is injected around the sparkplug. This fatter mixture is then ingited through the spark plug which increases pressure in the cylinder enough for the rest of the lean mixture to self ignite through compression just like a Diesel. The knocking problem when it runs in regular petrol mode is solved by the engine leaving the input valve open for bit during the compression stroke.

Really appreciate you went ahead with the review even in rain. That said, I feel the 3 looks sexy in the rain and all the nature around.

I can tell your genuine enthusiasm here David. This car is designed by enthusiasts for people like us who appreciate all those features you mentioned. One thing I don’t think you highlighted was the sound from the Bose speakers which is fantastic. I feel this car needs a sunroof. Mazda Ireland are scrimping here. I would love to see the 2.5 turbo version they have in the USA here.

Colin, thanks so much for the great feedback. We have to say, we completely agree, the 2.5 turbo version in Ireland would really make this a perfect choice. Many thanks again for the feedback! 🙌🏻🚘

It's really nice to drive and a big part of the driving experience is down to the manual gearbox!

Enjoyed this, thanks mate. Did you find the torsion beam suspension an issue with handling as its somewhat controversial that they ditched the independent rear setup?
@DoneDealMotor3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I didn't notice it whatsoever. In other vehicles with torsion beam suspension you can notice it a lot more. It definitely wouldn't deter me in buying on as actually the ride and dampening is quite good!

It is good to see something different on the road from the ususal rivals like the Corolla, Focus and Golf. The mazda has a much nicer interior than the Ford Focus, not just in looks but interior quality. The focus may be bigger in the back seats and in the boot, but the Mazda 3 is much better to drive than the Focus, the Focus has got overrated about its spectacular driving experience, ford never states anything about reliability but their reputation for reliability isnt as good as Mazda, and you get more standard equipment with Mazda. When you look at the Golf, if you want all the equipment that comes as standard with the Mazda 3, you have to pay extra for it in the Vw Golf.

which one do you recommend the Manual or the AT gearbox? and why?
@DoneDealMotor3 жыл бұрын
Hi CJ, generally I recommend automatic cars for the every day car, however the manual gearbox in the Mazda 3 is really enjoyable to use, so if it was me, I would probably opt for the manual. Hopefully that helps. Dave

What kind of real world miles per gallon did you get? City/Highway/Combined
@DoneDealMotor3 жыл бұрын
So it completely depended on the style of driving and where we were driving, however it was't uncommon to see mid 40s (uk mpg) which is very good for a 2.0litre petrol car.
