In 2004 my daughter at age 16 saved up enough money to buy a new Mazda RX7 with I think a 6-speed stick. It was an amazing little sports car. It would look great as a BEV.

I agree the Miata was never about the engine. It’s the drop top, lightweight, rwd fun! I hope Mazda finds a way keeping it that way without the price going too high.

People are talking about a drop in sales in EVs… could this be linked to the change over from CCS to the Tesla socket? When car models are changed over will we see a greater sales rebound? Add to this will we see cars with CCS have lower trade values vs cars fitted with the Tesla socket?

Great discussion, please do another episode on electric Miata or Elise type cars. I don’t think that’s possible with current energy density, but I’d love to hear experts on this.

Electric Miata would be amazing, and I’m not even a Miata guy. I think we should call it J3400 - it’s the proper term and it takes away from the ‘Tesla’ aura. It’s EVs for all in all forms. But we can still call it NACS for those who came to the party in 2023 and before. ;)

I too love the looks and interior of the MX-30. It's a shame that Mazda only sold them as a BEV compliance car (only in Cali) for North America. Other countries got ICE-powered versions. While you, Jordan, would be the guy to buy one cheap and drive it as an EV, I'd be the guy to buy one cheap, pick up a wrecked CX-30 Turbo or Mazda3 Turbo from Copart, and put the 2.5 T drivetrain in the MX-30 since it's the same chassis. I'd probably have the only MX-30 in the midwest! Not that I'm anti-BEV, but I just have this feeling that Mazda BEVs will continuously be behind the market in terms of performance, range, charging speed, everything drivetrain-related. As a Mazda fan - correction, Mazda collector and retail employee - that also acknowledges Mazda's shortcomings, having non-competitive BEV products will keep me out of BEV ownership.

Mazda can’t make an MX-90 right now because they could only pull 100 miles of range converting the CX-30 to MX-30. So how much range could be get out of a bigger car? They don’t seem to have the engineering talent yet for EV or they assigned the interns to work on the MX-30 and they can but haven’t yet assigned the A team. Hopefully for their sake the second and not the first.

11:28 you talking about the MX5… you have no clue that MG just releasing a MG sports roadster aimed at the top end of the market… press and media people are this and last week been testing it. Seeing none of there cars are available in the USA and sales are good around the world where MG is being sold USA is unlikely to get it

MX-30 is worse BEV ever and not just for that Year you are referring here but MX-R EV 30 will take that crown of the worst BEV to date. I am Mazda fan too still holding back on my Mazda 6 1st gen which is my 3rd Mazda in a row but if no new Mazda 6 BEV announced till Christmas and available 1st half of 2025 I will be a Tesla owner at the end of 2024.

NACS vs J3400 discussion is not even close. When you are first you get the rights to name it. Just like the stars are named by Arabian and the names of the days. It was whoever got there first named it. It is NACS end of discussion.
