Now I understand why my mechanic charged me $1000 to replace brake pads for all 4 wheels. I had the same noise after the replacement. It was the little bracket on the front-driver side. Great video.

@Cash Only I wouldn't think you'd need either at only 14,000 miles. They will do work and go "by the book", which usually means you'll pay for work they didn't do, or didn't need to do, just cause their book has a predetermined amount to charge for the particular task and its fast and easy extra money. A lot of mechanics are shameless snakes.

Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I had this same issue on my wife's CX-5, and it was making the same noise after pads and rotor replacement. I’ve been fighting with it for a week, driving myself crazy. It turns out it was the same thing the brake hardware rubbing against the rotor. I owe you big time.

Use hardware kit part number 13588Q, this hardware does not "slide" it snaps down very snug without sliding side to side. I just had the same problems when I changed my brakes, until I found this is new hardware kit👍

Of the half-dozen or so videos on CX5 front brake service, this is the best of the bunch. The others leave out steps or details. Buying the Mazda CX6 factory service manual in PDF format for $26 online is also worth every penny for service data, torque values, etc., but the factory service manual sucks if you want step-by-step guidance.

I had the same problems with the hardware clips "sliding" into the rotors. I found using a different hardware kit (part number 13588Q) to be a much better fitment with NO "sliding" they sit snug, and no more rubbing squeaky noises 👍

Hi! Oem pads are the way to go. But, my pads weren't the problem. I now do have OEM hardware for the next change though. I'm still not entirely sure that all the noise was coming from the front at first. Based on other's experience with the CX-5, maybe I should have checked the rears as well. I'm just so used to the front wearing faster.

Thanks for the video and inspiration for doing my front brakes later today. Re pad uneven wear: my guess lube washed away and pad was binding on the bracket from the rust, looks like you live in area where roads are salted for winter. Also, the thinner side of your brake pad has the wear indicator which was probably causing the original issue. Good work on finding second squeaky issue! When I had clicking/squeaking noises coming from the front of my CX-5, I took my ride to dealer (SF Mazda) as I was still under warranty. Their research resulted in fix similar to '16-'20 CX-9 on Mazda TSB Bulletin No.: 04-005/20 CLICK OR SQUEAK NOISE FROM FRONT BRAKES.

It looks like there are flaps protruding on the side of the hardware. I'm thinking that they are supposed to be bent downwards after aligning them against the brake disk before adding the pads, locking them in the caliper.

Good video very informative man. I saw that the larger shims go to the RHS of the extracted caliper lying on the bench. Not fully sure yet but I believe that the larger shims then go to the bottom part of the caliper once installed? The smaller shim then goes to the top. I have a CX5 2016 and its very much the same as yours. Whats your opinion man? Regards from Chile.

I didn't need to replace the ones I had on. I could have had them turned. But, timing was an issue. So I just decided to replace them. If you get them turned, there is a minimum thickness that acceptable. You could have the same rotors for a decade.

I have a 2014 CX-5 and recently changed the brake pads. The new hardware snapped into place solidly with no movement. Like you said the pads float in the hardware so these were greased. I just checked and the hardware has a sufficient gap away from the rotor and doesn't move. Could it be the aftermarket hardware?

One of the better DIY videos I’ve seen. My wife’s 2019 CX-5 has 17k miles. I pulled the calipers off and the original pads and rotors look fantastic. Her car squeaks out of the front brakes when pulling out of the garage at low speeds. After they are heated up they do not squeak at low speeds. Since the parts still look pretty new, should I just bring everything down with brake cleaner or the brake quiet spray?
@MaqsVids
@MaqsVids 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man! I would do two things. I (and my wife) thought the noise was coming from the front in this video. But, I later found out is was the rear. So, check the rears. If the rears are good, just throw some new pads on the front, and put brake disc quiet on the parts and see if it goes away. Look up brake pad bedding procedures that could help. I'm no expert, but that's what I would try. Good luck man!
