Nice. Im planning this job on all corners of my NC. Just waiting on the parts to be in stock again.. I've seen someone else demonstrate the method you discovered for inserting the new piston and boot - looks like it's the best way. Thanks for all these videos, they're very helpful even though i more or less knew what to do. It's much easier to feel confident after seeing it done.

Cool. I always take off the plate to get to the Oil bolt.

Changed the oil on my NC a couple of weeks ago. I still have all the plastic covers on underneath so way harder! I am now a bit jealous of the access you have there. Even standing underneath using a pit it can be hard to reach the oil filter.

As far as I know there aren't any plastic parts that far back. There would normally be a metal cover, but easy enough to take off.

@@CompletelyDriven , there is a fairly easily unbolted cover (5 bolts) which gives some access, but also a large plastic undertray that covers pretty much the whole underside of the engine bay area. There is a flap in this to access the oil filter, but this access hole is ~8" back from the filter. With the undertray in place it would be virtually impossible to get at the filter to undo it while on axle stands - just not enough joints in a standard arm! Mine is an NC1, so maybe they updated this for the NC2?

@katywalker8322 just watched another video. You can get to the filter and undo it through the space left by the metal cover being removed. No need to take the plastic cover off that is further. If you did for ease of access then all good, but the metal cover is enough.

@@CompletelyDriven , I did remove that cover which made it easier than trying to use the access flap. Still a pain (not helped that I can only use one end of the pit at the moment, so only just get the front of the MX5 over the pit). These days I do so few miles that oil changes are done on time rather than miles!

Did you get the newer dipstick, I have the st150 and would like a better reader. As ford people can have the reading points aimed at the engine. Thou volvo people say different, but only mazda people are like just use s better dipstick as these engines are great but need the correct oil level.
@CompletelyDriven lol, thanks I did see this before. So we have one on the outside of the engine and yours goes in the engine from the top. I guess it was parts bin stuff they used the same part. But don't know.
