Absolutely fantastic video. Not only showing the procedure, but the tools needed. I've watched a lot of videos on this topic and most are shaky with bad lighting and restricted views. Your videos are studio quality and explain everything very well. Well done, my friend.

Great vid, brother! Couple tweaks…Anyone reading, please get a bungee cord or zip tie and hang the caliper from a spring of something, don’t want it falling like @8:30, it’s rare but can damage the brake line/crimp/caliper. Also, when removing the disc it’s not best to hit with a metal hammer (and a rubber one may not be enough)…you can put a wood block against the disc base and hit that with a hammer 🙂

I think you should be using red rubber grease for the sliders, not copper grease as the copper grease can react with rubber and cause the seals to degrade?
@AlexTheGrumpyOne
@AlexTheGrumpyOne 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah it is better to use the rubber one. Copper grease is still great for the metal contact of it inside. I personally never had an issue with rubber after using copper grease, but have heard that it's not the best thing for it. Thank you for your advice :)

I haven't even taken a wheel off my car, but I think following this video (really clear and thorough) I could do this. My main problem I have is my driveway is on a slope, so I can't jack the car up :/

At 3:14 what is that part sticking out from behind the brake disc on the right hand side. Is it part of the back plate? Because later on in the video its not there. I need to replace mine but can't find the part name! Thanks
@AlexTheGrumpyOne
@AlexTheGrumpyOne 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes it is part of a back plate. Its shaped like that to help cooling of the brakes. So the name should be front discs back plate.

Nice video! I can only add that this also applies to MX-5 NB Sport (Big) Brakes, as they are identical.

Hi Alex - great video. I have two questions please. 1. If I'm only removing calipers to clean and paint them and I don't squeeze the piston in then I shouldn't have to be concerned with any brake fluid issues, would that be correct? 2. Is the process described in this video exactly the same for the rear brakes or is. anything different? Thanks!
@AlexTheGrumpyOne
@AlexTheGrumpyOne 4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you. 1. If you removing them without undoing brake hose or etc then you should be fine. I would still recommend to push piston back 1 or 2mm just to make it easier for you to slide it off and put back on. If you painting calipers then please try and protect all the rubbers(piston rubber cover and sliders covers) of paint as it can damage them. 2. For the rear ones it's similar, just different calipers and sliders. I would recommend you to watch my video on rear brakes replacement for that to be honest.

@@AlexTheGrumpyOne Hi Alex - I want to now remove the front and rear calipers, especially the front as I need to use a kit t replace to piston and seals. What is the best way to unfasten them and stop the fluid leaking whilst they are off? Thanks!
