Ceramic apex seals are not known for handling boost well.. Theyre so hard that they are fragile. When they break, the shrapnel usually takes out the entire engine and turbine. This has been well documented on rx7club over the years. I suggest running e85 or water/methanol injection as a knock deterrent if you insist on going that route.. or more preferably replacing the seals with 1 piece steel seals. On a side note, anyone who discredits the possibility of making 300 horse doesn't realize this is half of a 13b (and more durable than a 13b) where guys are making around 1,300 wheel in drag applications.
@samjohnson73255 жыл бұрын
Keith Wakeland we are planning on running e85 only and conservative (ish) timing. Luckily if they shatter they’re only going to take out half the parts and we have spares for all of it. Tbh I would have gone a different route as well but we will see how long it lasts. Lol

@@SuprSi it isn't necessarily the amount of fuel that the engine needs, it'd the pressure of the fuel system. At 20 psi of boost that's pushing back on the fuel trying to get into the chamber so you need more pressure to get it in the motor to go bang. Also 10,000 rpm and a rotary goes bang 3 times per rotation so you still need a lot of fuel flow.

Ceramic apex seals are wonderful for NA applications, but in boosted applications one bad detonation will cause them to shatter into dust and completely destroy everything it touches inside the motor. Also they seal very well as long as the housing is brand new (not resurfaced). I'm also not sure how well it will do with all 4 ports getting air/fuel all the time. In a normal NA 6 port people have tried similar porting and either made the same or less power. I would've liked to see individual intake runners going to each where the lower ports act as primaries for lower RPM and then the two upper ports coming on at higher rpm as secondaries. That probably would've made this a very streetable car, but excited to see what it does either way

it is hard to said what is going to be wrong there, as it looked well build, I can say that you guys did not show a shot of how close the side seals pass to the bridge port, so hopefully the side seal does not get caught in the port and bring hell to the 10A, as for the turbo and intake, well ceramic coat the hot side housing of the turbo and cover the intake with a good insulation material. Rotary engines love boost, and as long as you have good fuel system, spark and does not create to much back pressure it should hit your goals, at the flywheel ! Looking forward for the next vid!

The first thing I could imagine failing on this Rotary Engine build.... I wonder about the Heat Stresses associated with something like this, but the main thing might be oil feed? Will you all be Pre-mixing the fuel with Two Stroke Engine Oil, or will you use the Oil Feed in the Housing for the Apex Seals? I am unsure if you all ever mentioned it before. As far as I can see, you all are doing a great job, entertaining content and chemistry between you all. Makes me jealous that I cannot work on a car, much less work on a car with my friends. I had some time to think, I am wondering how well the Engine will provide torque to the wheels off-boost? I hope it will not suffer or just smoke the clutch from rolling resistance or anything like that.
@zomgz9325 жыл бұрын
Always premix too much 2 stroke oil will just make it bog where as 4 stroke oil of any kind will carbon up eventually. If the car burns clutches because of starting off. Then put a lower final drive

You should probably split the manifold adapter plate, it'll get hot, expand, and might do weird things. If you split it the 180 bend would give you a lot more material to take up the heat expansion forces.
@RTDragonCommando5 жыл бұрын
The longer intake runners would give you more low end torque, but cost peak power. If you can get away with them it might give you some streetability benefit to compensate for the ceramic apex seals. If you've got the materials and think it's worth it, might be good to make and try both the short and long setups to see what works best for what you want. As far as power, right from the start I figured 300hp was perfectly possible, considering how much you can get out of a boosted two rotor without even revving as high.
@fredericrike59745 жыл бұрын
I'll cop to the low ball- but I think 45-48 was what I said for one rotor from a stock or unboosted motor- with two atmos (30 lbs), you might get that to 150-160. Just to propose that I figured you had to open up the intake and maybe exhaust- they are the size they are to promote low end and particularly cold running. Your dialog was clear- you don't really expect much low end or smooth usable low end. Still think it will take something akin to nitro methane to crack 200- or even more boost, like 3-3.5 atmospheres! But it will be cool till the seals or something else comes off/out of it!

@Nathan0A5 жыл бұрын
First thing to go SHOULD be that intake manifold you're planning on fabbing up. You should consult with an experienced engine builder about how to design with a specific runner volume and profile in mind. If you use too large of a runner, the intake port velocity won't be high enough, reversion will occur, and your powerband will be spiky / not smooth at all. I have experience tuning an engine that had a grossly mismatched intake / porting setup and it was down on torque under the curve, miserable drivability, wouldn't idle for shit, it was a nightmare to tune! Keeping a consistent velocity from the throttle body to the actual port openings is important, so all of the profiles should gradually taper. There's a LOT of science in intake design and it's easily one of the biggest factors in making decent power and decent power curve There might be some online calculators for intake runner and plenum volume out there, but the best thing to do would be get ahold of someone who knows the math and have them help you figure out the diameters and lengths.
