@jimparr01Utube2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a shame that so much 'burnt' fuel is wasted. We can no longer accept such pollutants in today's world. But several experimenters have found solutions to this problem so the engine may have a future yet as a classic and compact, lightweight power-plant.
@yamaha94O Жыл бұрын
Full size rotory engines found in the rx sereis of cars are the same way. They're super prone to forward firing due to incomplete combustion and the unburnt fule igniting in the hot exhaust. Terrible for the environment. But super cool. Lol. I drove a second gen rx7 before. Super fun car. Didn't end up buying in cause the wireing for the lights and everything to make it road legal was shot. Super fun car tho. Braaaaaapp! POP! POP! POP! BRAAAAAAAAPP!

@@jimparr01Utube I have to add that in a way you're right though: that tiny engine does in fact demonstrate a fundamental flaw in wankels, it just does it in a far too exaggerated way. The situation isn't anywhere near that bad, but the same flaws do nevertheless exist. I personally believe that wankels may never become 'fixed' of their flaws, but we have naturally not seen all potential improvements so it's impossible to know. Sort of how 2-strokes were possible to turn into clean-burning things with slight changes (mainly direct injection and removing the oil from the fuel).

dOoMnX - Right, which is why I was so surprised to see one without a spark plug! I had no idea such an engine (that runs on gasoline, no less) even existed! Very weird - especially since the fuel doesn’t appear to be injected like a diesel would normally work.

*This is a **_"Benz Cycle"_** not a Diesel Cycle Wankel engine, this Wankel KKM variant designed by Graupner GmbH. uses the same primitive type of "Glow Plug" ignition system found in most RC model engines. This engine does not utilize compression ignition. The fuel used here is nitromethane which has an octane rating between 110 -117 RON*

Its crazy how rotaries dont use any fuel and just blow it out the exhaust
@dannyjones38406 жыл бұрын
abecx it's not the engine- these little model airplane engines are 2 strike, and because they have no oil system to lubricate them, the fuel itself has a lot of castor oil in it for lubrication. That is mostly what you're seeing being ejected out the exhaust
@abecx6 жыл бұрын
The sarcasm was about rotaries being notorious for unburnt fuel. I'll try and be more obvious next time.
@jimstepan30386 жыл бұрын
Danny Jones, all rotary engines are 4 cycle; intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Because it is rotary motion there are no "strokes". But, there are 4 distinct phases, or cycles, of each rotor face going on for each crankshaft rotation.. Facinating video!
@taylorlatch26356 жыл бұрын
2 cycle engines have 4 "phases" also with that logic. intake, compression, power, exhaust. rotary engines aren't 4 cycle. Rotaries behave more like a 2 stroke or at most a hybrid. It uses the rotor to open intake/exhaust ports similar to 2 stroke.
@doktorbimmer6 жыл бұрын
+Taylor Latch *That is completely wrong Taylor, All Wankel engines are 4-stroke and use the same 4-stroke operating principle as the Otto engine. Wankel engines are fundamentally different than 2-stroke engines which combine 2 cycles together at the same or overlap significantly. Port induction can be found on both 4-stroke reciprocating engines as well as the 4-stroke Wankel engine.*

Once the apex of the rotor passes the exhaust port, the high-pressure combustion gases are free to flow out the exhaust. As the rotor continues to move, the chamber starts to contract, forcing the remaining exhaust out of the port. By the time the volume of the chamber is nearing its minimum, the peak of the rotor passes the intake port and the whole cycle starts again. The neat thing about the rotary engine is that each of the three faces of the rotor is always working on one part of the cycle. In one complete revolution of the rotor, there will be three combustion strokes.
@dokterbimmer72705 жыл бұрын
Citroen and Van Veen also experimented with Wankel, but only NSU and Mazda had Wankel commercialized. A nice thought to rotate instead of the existing up/down engines, but some bad hooks: bad compression control, bad fuel consumption and bad CO2 creation.

@therealdokoterbimmerrotary67515 жыл бұрын
@@xkexke8081 as Ernie Brink said, by changing sparkplug hole geometry by a very thin flat hole (height of the hole will have the same thickness as apex seal) , but too narrow hole could diminish the effectiveness of the spark,I think we can go bigger in the height of the hole without really having consequant gas exchange between compression chamber and exhaust chamber. Other ideas from Ernie Brink are very interesting and pertinant and there are still more possibility to improve the rotary engine
