Hi. This is a very helpful video. I have the same error code. How can I prevent the exhaust camshaft from wearing out so that this issue will not occur anymore? I’m thinking of buying a new exhaust camshaft and have the problematic part sanded down just a little to keep it from coming into contact with the other parts that causes its wear and degradation

Agree,this engine definitelly has it's flaws. That's one of the reasons why I make these videos, so that people can fix them at home and save money on repairs, coz Mazda probably won't take any responsibility.

​@@MrNiceGuy94 So please, would You be able to write back if You need to change the whole timing chain and parts when replacing the exhaust shaft or You just replace the exhaust camshaft and do not touch the valve timing system with chain, water pump ect..? How it is? I need to replace my vacuum pump and most likely the exhaust shaft as well as have the same error codes after every few engine warmups.

Hi, i just had the whole engine refurbished with new cam chain, camshafts and rocket arms. Car drives fine and intermittently it throws P285B error code, i believe vaccum pump hasnt been replaced, wondering if i need to change it and if so, would the part number for it be SH15-18-W00C?

Hi buddy I am working on a Mazda 6 at the moment the vacuum pump is gone did the same test as you through the brake sensor this Mazda ribs up to 2000 RPM when you start it and stays there for about 30 seconds is the vacuum pump causing this

This is a great helpful video, keep up the good work. I have just bought a second hand 2014 Mazda3 skyactive 2.2, it has the same warining about the Vacuum pump, would replacing the pump resolve the issue or do I need to get the Exhaust Camshaft checked as well?

Hello Great video and has given me the confidence to change my vacuum pump. All bolts now removed and pump has clear access BUT its stubborn too remove. Do I need to give it any impact (light hammer) to release it to be able to remove it?

Hi, thanks for the video. I had some similar problem with Mazda CX5 2.2 DIESEL, so all started with Smart City Break System, that caused some few interventions like cutting a bit some pipes, reconecting it up to change air flow sensor. But then started the real nightmare, as in 3 months the service was not able to find the real reason why also the Engine sign was on (yellow sign). That showed several times before while driving, and after restarting some time was disappearing. Now, finally after official Mazda service checked, they changed some rubbons (not sure what), cleaned the injectors and then the code for the pump showed up. Their next suggestion is that may will need a new pump, or whenever a new turbo. The current mileage is 177000 km...any advice thought?

first, tell me what codes you are getting. If it is P0101 then check the camshaft and carbon buildup, fix those two then update the PCM software. For the P258B change the vacuum pump. ;)

@@MrNiceGuy94 I dont know what codes they had before, but I think they cleaned the cumshaft and now the only code that shows up is that one for the pump. Interesting is that the last time when we were reseting the code that dissapear even before we did it manually. Is it any possibility if change the pump that may then have problem with the turbo or is not connected?

I have had vehicle system malfunction warning light, code P258B. I ignored for a while as no issue driving car. 1 month later, I start car and low oil pressure, car goes limp mode, but oil level is okay. I replace oil and filter, and oil light go off, but wonder what may happened. Maybe, like video, exhaust cam shaft metal dislodge, metal break vacuum pump fins, end up in oil gallery and block these. Might be good to check all these and also check the oil strainer on bottom of engine to see any debris metal.

Did this today but now the car won't start. I'm sure I put all the pipes back on but worry I might have created an air lock removing one of the pipes which seemed to contain diesel. So confused!

because it is from a softer material than the rocker arms, and the vacuum pump goes bad because the metal particles from the camshaft damage it.

@@ilnarbulatov Привет, по поводу распредвалов и их выхода из строя, с 2016 или 17, не помню точно, начали ставить уже модифицированные распредвалы. Если у тебя не удалён сажевый и ЕГР, то лучше почистить впуск, он 100% будет засран, можно открутить датчик давления в коллекторе и если он будет в саже, то и впуск будет такой же. Ещё одна важная вещь за которой надо следить, это прокладки под топливными форсунками, они могут прогореть и газы буду попадать в картер и коксовать масло, а этот кокс будет забивать сетку маслонасоса, и в итоге будет масляное голодание, со всеми вытекающими последствиями.

@@ilnarbulatov главное найти хороших тюнеров, я купил машину без сажи и с плохим чипом, так получилось что у меня хороший знакомый занимается перепрошивкой бмв, я к нему обратился и мне все отключили как положено, уже 3-й год пошёл, как я езжу на этой прошивке. Кольца под форсунками я тоже менял, для себя решил что буду это делать раз в 50тыс.

New vacuum pump required. But you also have a failed exhaust camshaft / rockers. Put it on scan tool , and you will see your 'brake pressure sensor' is way above 10kpa. Very common unfortunately.
