Approaching 4 years of ownership on my manual 2.0 Mazda 3. I do literally everything with that car... City driving, canyon roads, track days. I could not agree more on you saying its a well rounded car, it does everything I could ever ask of it! I owned other cars on the side, like an MX-5 and an older Boxter. You can learn to drive the Mzd3 and have fun in it, then its hard to switch to any other car in the class. With good summer and winter tires, it's even enough to fulfill my weekend car needs most of the time. So I got rid of the other cars eventually. Even if they were technically a bit more fun, the 3 was just so much more practical and calm when i wanted it to be at the same time. Mazda advertises that car as 120hp in EU to get around some engine and insurance taxes. In reality it does between 155-165hp, I put mine and a friends on a dyno, and the guys there said thats pretty normal apperantly.

Still very happy with my Mazda 3 after 3 years of ownership. We didn't have 2.5 version in Poland, but my 2.0 is remapped @175 HP and with manual transmission, so no complaints (less weight too) ;) NVH could be better but it's not terrible, just more noticeable at higher speeds. So last week I traded in my 2017 Mazda Hatch 6MT (base model) for a 2015 Acura ILX 2.4 6MT. The ILX is a bit overlooked. It’s not a hatch, but anyone looking into these cars should take a look at it. It’s around the same price and honestly it feels like a completely different class of vehicle. Btw, I really did enjoy my Mazda for over 3 years!
@RoyalFizzbin4 жыл бұрын
Hunter Manzano The ILX *is* overlooked, but isn’t it just a Civic in a suit? Note that I am not saying that as a bad thing... just more as a “know what it really is” kind of thing. Also, if I am not mistaken, it has a K series under the hood. I had a last-production-year RSX-S with a similar K engine (less torque, same power, higher compression, lower displacement, higher redline), and I found it so, so frustrating around town. It was really only when I my foot was all the way down merging onto the highway that the car really felt like it was something. What do you think about that 2.4 liter K series around town, specifically? Right now, for somewhere in the same ballpark money, I am looking at the new Kia Forte GT manual (sedan), assuming I keep my job, when this current situation is over.
@HDmanzano19954 жыл бұрын
PrimusPilusVorenus I find that it’s pretty easy around town thus far. It really wants to be revved. Compared to the 2.0 in my Mazda 3 I definitely prefer it. The clutch and shifter in the ILX is leaps and bounds better than the Mazda’s. Regarding the “civic in a suit” thing I hear a lot...it’s really not. My fiancé has a 17 Civic (base sedan) and there’s no comparison when it comes to ride quality. Much smoother, and heavier feeling. Material qualities are A big step up as well. Also, the civic has a CVT. The 2016 and up ILX have an 8-speed dual clutch. It would definitely be worth it to give them on a test drive seeing as you can get a 16-17 low mile ILX for $15-$17k. Take it for a spin and you’ll feel a pretty big difference when you hop in that Kia. 6MT was only made 13-15. You might have a little trouble finding one, but proving is usually really reasonable.

Lukewarm? That's not a fair comment, first because so many people behind the wheel of a car do so many stupid things that so much regulations exist for manufacturers for volume sales. Other thing so so many people reviews vehicles and just try to find things to say and most times say their opinions on things that most people care nothing about, like complaints about volume nod in Honda vehicles, or hard plastic in place where doesn't matter, saying a two year old car is dated, or compare normal cars to luxury or sports or hyper cars, which is not relevant for most...they ignore Honda, Toyota, and others reliable, safe, peace of mind and real everyday use.

I'm a Mazda fan (with the exception of the CX-9). I've owned several Mazdas over the years ranging from an AWD Minivan to a rotary powered sports car. And based on the comments I'd have to agree that the Mazda3 may be the best value among the three hatchbacks considered here. So my question is why the sales of the current generation Mazda3 are so abysmal. Total sales for the Mazda3 in 2019 barely topped 50,000 units in the US, down 21% compared to 2018. For 2020 sales will undoubtedly be MUCH worse. And please don't tell me it's because Mazda has turned away from Zoom Zoom Mazdaspeed models. Mazda didn't abandon Mazdaspeed vehicles because they were big sellers. Just the opposite. If adding a performance model Mazda3 increased sales by 40% (a fantasy) Mazda would still have sold fewer total units than the KIA Forte (by 25,000 units), the VW Jetta (by 30,000 units) and the Hyundai Elantra by a whopping 100,000 units. Honda CIvic and Toyota Corolla sales. Forget it. No one should expect to top sales of Civics and Corollas but something is seriously wrong if they cannot more more than 50K Mazda3's. I happen to be a hatchback fan. But I'll hold onto my GTI, thank you. Much better performance. Greater versatility and in my experience totally reliable.
@viktorlarsson53964 жыл бұрын
Well, I can't anser the question about why they aren't selling, maybe because of a lack of advertising? But, I am a Mazda mechanic and most of the time they only come in for service, the most common job except for servicing is rear brakepad and dics-changes, since the owners don't brake hard enough to motion the rear brakes. Every single owner I've talked to is super happy with their car aswell. So, nothing is seriously wrong with the cars (edited for spelling correting)

Why did you guys Premier an episode from 2 years ago?
@EverydayDriver4 жыл бұрын
We’re bringing old TV episodes to KZbin with Saturday Premieres. Even though they were on cable a while ago and have been on Amazon Prime as well, we realize many still haven’t seen them or even know we did them. We hope everyone enjoys.

I love my 2020 Civic hatch... the seats are very comfortable!
@LNSLateNightSaturday4 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, man. As I said in an above comment, I spent several days in a 2019 Civic, and the seats were some of the worst I've endured. For a modern vehicle, anyway; my '85 Mercury Topaz was worse...
@mattmc83914 жыл бұрын
Brenton Welty I also agree , just bought a 20 model hatch sport touring , seats are great 👍 maybe they are better on the touring because of the leather and 8 way power adjustment
@alifarsani24694 жыл бұрын
is not VW Golf better than all three? I highly regard Golf as the king of hatches same as 3series has been a king of sport sedans for many decades now

Why on earth are you comparing an old Mazda3 with a new civic? The new Mazda3 is a spaceship compared to the old one. I just think it is a bad comparison. Disclosure: I have never owned a Mazda, I have owned a Civic back in 2008. I currently do not druve a car from any of these three manufacturers. My opinion on these cars (including the new Mazda3, I drove one last summer): Mazda 3: a great drive, good trunk space, lota of features, quality materials and man... claustrophobic back seats (new version), comparable to the Toyota c-hr. And not much of space for legs, too. Hyunday: a sensible, vanilla car which checks out all the boxes Honda: great to drive, a bit noisy, cheap materials, bad seats. From these three I would buy a Mazda 3 or if I would like my interior to be vomit free from the passengers seated in the back seat, a Hyundai. If I would not like to make compromises I would just go for the Golf.

As noted in the description, this episode of TV is from our second season before the current. Mazda3 was even revealed. We have the new gen Mazda3 As part of Season 5. Thanks for watching.

I feel like VW interiors are overrated, have never been that impressed compared to Toyotas, Hondas and Subarus

Todays "common" VW's interior is getting it fair share of crap... plastic all the way.. cheap feeling top... No longer the benchmark for interiours..

The Hyundai is junk , the Honda is too much for what you get. Mazda is the clear winner and anyone who actually does their homework will come to the same conclusion.

@TheKaisarwilhelm4 жыл бұрын
You sound like a Honda fanboy, who is very biased. Hyundai has come a long way the last two decades so watch out. Also, Mazda is just as reliable IMHO but gets overlooked due to volume of sales.
@eljoel894 жыл бұрын
Skip the Civic. The exterior is hideous, the interior is below quality compared to the Elantra GT and the Mazda 3, and for some reason the automatic is a CVT where the GT is a dual clutch and the Mazda is a true 6 speed.
@TheKaisarwilhelm4 жыл бұрын
My biggest issue with it is that you can only get the stick in the bottom two trims (yes...or the type R...) And neither trim offers Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Also, they are selling at sticker.

.. Worked for the mk1-mk4 GTI, works for the Fit too. It may not be infinitely adjustable, but it can still be improved upon and it's simple. Add a rear swaybar and you'll never know (except when you are installing the swaybar and are looking at the rear beam)

This is the 3rd generation. It has an independent rear suspension
