In this video we clock the BNR S4 v2 turbo and install JBR's under route piping kit. This provides a shorter airflow path and reduces the amount of heat soak into the intercooler piping that would normally be positioned on top of the engine and behind the radiator. Enjoy the video! Please like, share, and subscribe :)

Wrap the ex-manifold. It will spare you from a lot of heat in the cabin as well as all those plastic wraps of the engine harness, sensors, all kinds of hoses and so on. I have a catted downpipe and stock ex-mani (so all the heat shields in place except the turbo heat shields) and I couldn't believe hot much of a difference it made to wrap the DP. Once I moved to a catted TP I wrapped that as well. As a bonus I've got a bit of sound deadening as well.
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners 5 жыл бұрын
Yea header wrap should take care of the heat. This tubular manifold radiates a tonne of heat into the engine bay, especially mid summer. I imagine that a catted setup would be even hotter.

Wrap those headers and the turbo dude, absolutely more than helpful, people on the speed forums will likely attest to this as well and I know ur not running a stupid big turbo but the aftermarket heat shields for turbos(turbo blankets or whatever you prefer to call them) help hold that heat in the turbo which means less radiating heat to engine components, you are likely having a combination of smaller problems and not one big one for the heat soak

Hey Guys, love your videos! I've learned so much! I've been progressively modding my MS3 Gen 1 and am curious about what you're doing in the 12th minute... I have a TR8 and the under route piping kit and a BNRS4 that I have yet to install. Why do you have to re-locate the waste gate actuator? I'm assuming it's because of the way the under route kit is made? Curious if I will have to go through all of this? Any helps appreciated, thanks!

The reason is that when rotating the turbo, the compressor housing is larger on that side, causing the actuator to contact it. The larger bracket provided by BNR allows the actuator to clear the compressor housing. Just give Bryan at BNR a call :)

Awesome man, glad to hear. The JBR under route piping has been very good. It has a lot of adjustability to ensure things don't rub. I had some issues with contact at the passenger side driveshaft and subframe, but since zipties come in handy and with all the adjustability, that wasn't a problem for very long. Just keep an eye on rub points and adjust as needed :)

Wastegate arm should have a little bit of pre-load. At least enough that you have to pull the arm a tiny but to get it on the flapper. This keeps the wastegate seated so you are not leaking air that could help with spool. I know you are creeping and this won't help that any but in the summer time you are just wasting air that could be spooling that turbo as the wg is letting air bypass before it has done its job with a loose flapper. The only way you are going to get rid of creep at this point is with an external wg and either dump of recirc it. Keep up the good content.

Basically u want to start by clocking it 180 degrees pointing down. Then once it's installed in the car, u can make final adjustments in relation to the under route piping, and then tighten the compressor housing fully down evenly. It takes quite a bit of patience to ensure everything is done properly and to your liking :)

Time to upgrade to an AP V3! Gotta keep an eye on more than one thing. But these S4s and the creep is bad. Going EWG on my setup to get rid of it. It's so bad, even with my actuator maxed out. Also, I recommend using a short 14mm socket with a swivel extension for the downpipe. You'll be able to get all of the nuts from up top without having to go under the car. Takes me less than 10 minutes to remove my ATP catless downpipe. PS: Never shave again. Please.

FYI boost creep happens when the IWG cannot bypass enough exhaust gasses to limit the speed of the turbine wheel. Increasing the preload on the wastegate actuator will in fact help the turbo spool up if it was previously opening at too low of a boost pressure, but having the actuator set with too much preload may limit it's travel making the turbo creep even worse in the mid to high rpm range :)

@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners 4 жыл бұрын
Yep we had the same issue. It prevented the turbo from being clocked further to the back, so all we did what get it as close as we could without putting too much pressure against the coolant hose, or the nipple on the metal pipe that the coolant hose attaches to. Then we made adjustments to the under route piping and tightened everything down. It's inconvenient that that coolant hose is in the way, but it still works :)

This BNR S4 wastegate is rated to 18 psi and my car creeps up to about 23 psi with this high flowing setup at 0% wgdc in cold weather. I think u are talking about the S3 actuator right?
@blazonemore2
@blazonemore2 5 жыл бұрын
@@WannabeTuners Yes the actuator arm. needs to have a bunch of preload holding the gate closed. you did a good job fitting /bending the arm to go on smoothly. but you did not show adjusting the prelaod it needs to hold it closed under boost. that will cause slow spool and boost creep issues. the actuator needs a bunch of prelaod to get all the boost you want. it is a lot easier to set it now before you have it all back together. i had this issue on my car under route set up with a gtx turbo. had to go back and add more prelaod 3 times to get it right.
@blazonemore2
@blazonemore2 5 жыл бұрын
with too little of preload my wastegate would start to open at 8psi and would spool slow. i could also barely get over 22psi. after adding a bunch of prelaod may car spools fast and i hit 30psi easy.
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners 5 жыл бұрын
@@blazonemore2 I hear ya man. The wg actuator that comes with the S4 is pretty stiff and doesn't have any issues with spool. This turbo suffers from boost creep, mainly in cooler weather, but it's nothing tuning can't solve ;) When fitting the wg actuator rod to the arm, I found it's a good idea to adjust the rod length slightly shorter than it needs to be, so that it applies slight pressure on the wg flap in the closed position to prevent it from rattling at idle. In the video you can see that the rod is pretty loose sliding onto the arm, which caused the wg flap to rattle at idle. I had to remove the actuator several times to get the rod length just right so that it would apply slight pressure to the wg flap in the closed position :)
@blazonemore2
@blazonemore2 5 жыл бұрын
@@WannabeTuners slight pressure will work. but if you really crank it down so its maxed out. you will wake up you spool and boost by a lot. and your boost creep will pretty much go away. just my opinion tho. i did what my tuner nishan told me to do and now may car runs a lot better. 22 psi vs 30 psi. light pressure vs max. turbo spools at 20psi at 3k now. before it hit 20psi at 5500rpm.
