Unfortunately we blew the stock engine in the Mazdaspeed 3 on the dyno. All the tuning was done by me, and many would agree that it was not overly aggressive. It's hard to say what caused the failure at this point, but we noticed knock retard values above 5 degrees in the data log right before it let go. This didn't really make sense as we were running 94 octane pump gas mixed with 3 gallons of in tank methanol. The next possibility in our minds, is that using the WOT box as a rev limiter while making this much power and generating this much heat with back to back runs, might have stressed the engines stock internals to a point of no return. We already know that the OEM pistons and connecting rods are the weak points of this engine. At this point we've sourced another used CX7 long block and are going get it built with forged connecting rods, pistons, upgraded bearings, and possibly some head work. Enjoy the video!
