I'm using this as an instructional video. My k03 went out, so I found a k03 to replace it, with k04 internals, so I'm hoping it'll be fairly straight forward. Seems very similar to replacing a turbo on a 2022 trailblazer (I've done probably 10 to 15 of those, (GM Service Technician)) I couldn't really find any instructional videos on a Jetta though. But once I saw this, I was like, dang heck ya, this will work perfectly. So that's my project this weekend. Hoping everything works out. I have a 2010 Wolfsburg Edition with the 2.0T and DSG. I'm pretty excited to see what kinda extra power it puts down. They said it bumps it up from 200 to 255 without a tune, but I guess we'll see.

@Owenage1000 That's about 30 psi. I would imagine this is somewhat normal in the mid rpm range, but will taper off drastically at higher rpm. It could also be due to restriction in the system, for example a stock exhaust system.

Woohoo! Got my CX7 2.3L Turbo back up and running - thank you so much for the video and the answer to the comments along the way... I had the scariest moment though - on first start the engine seized after a few seconds despite being primed... I thought it was game over... pulley would not turn over by hand!!! Dropped pan and found one of the rod bearings chewed up and material stuck to crank... heart sank! I polished off the material on rod journal - crank was perfectly fine as it had not heated up... I changed bearings and noticed that the rod cap had no side to side play on the one that seized... then it struck me - the caps of the replacement connecting rods must have been switched (either by myself or the guy who sent me a new used set). When I swapped the caps over, the rod caps had nice side to side play. Put balance shaft back in, threw in the sump pan, and the engine now purs...Works perfectly and has zero smoke. Got a few 100km on it now, and it's smooth as butter! That was scary AF!

Question for you, if you have aux fuel 8 port and a wot box, would you have to flat foot shift all the time even in normal driving so you dont get a lean burn?
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners Ай бұрын
You get a lean burn when flat foot shifting with Cobb's FFS feature, which cuts fuel injectors instead of ignition. AUX fuel would continue to spray while the stock injectors are cut during the FFS. This would cause the engine to burn the AUX fuel and cause the gear to lock out, as the engine continues to generate torque. I hope that makes sense :)
@barry9141
@barry9141 Ай бұрын
@WannabeTuners cheers, so do you have to ffs normal driving or you will get lean burn everytime you shift, or turn wot box off for normal driving
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners Ай бұрын
@barry9141 You will only get a lean burn when the AUX fuel starts to spray at higher MAF voltages or under boost. Just cruising around town, you can shift normally by lifting off the gas.
@barry9141
@barry9141 Ай бұрын
@@WannabeTuners aw I see, does the wot box only activate when you ffs? And is ffs bad for gearbox
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners Ай бұрын
@barry9141 It can cause damage to the gear box at very high torque levels, but for the most part our gear boxes are pretty solid. It will activate when it detects that the gas pedal and clutch are both pressed all the way down. The amount of accelerator pedal position before it activates can be adjusted through the WOT box software. Tuned by Nishan has a great video explaining this on his KZbin channel.

Just tried to prime engine after rebuild - did 10 second bursts for about 30 to 40 seconds - the low oil pressure light did not go out. What was your experience like - how long did you have to crank engine to get the oil warning lamp on dash to go out?
@WannabeTuners
@WannabeTuners Ай бұрын
I went based off of my AEM oil pressure gauge. I'm not sure if the low oil pressure light will extinguish while cranking, as the oil pressure won't be as high while cranking. If I recall correctly, we only needed to crank it a few times before we saw oil pressure on the gauge. I think once we maxed out at around 35 psi, we we're good to go.

Lol I never had smoking issues either on the the stock K04. I believe a lot of it has to do with the high oil pressure being fed to the turbos bearing system, along with having a high flowing downpipe/exhaust system, which in my mind creates a venturi effect during deceleration at mid to high rpm's. This on top of the high oil pressure being fed to the turbo will pull oil past the turbine seal where it'll burn.

I've seen on some other platforms that there is a small pre-filter in behind the banjo bolt where the turbo oil feed line exits the block. This filter was not present in my engine.
