I've got a CX-7 with the same engine, P2004, the actuator is working, I have visually confirmed the rod moves and closes the valves on a cold start, and the rod moves and opens the valves again once the engine is warmed up. The plastic piece is intact and activating the switch as well. The switch also works as I was able to artificially trigger a P2006 by forcing the butterfly valves closed by actuating the rod with my finger while the engine was on. No idea why this code is triggering.

Did you figure it out? Did you try the Lego trick that bro commented under yours? Having the same issue

@@jujums3 sold the car before I ever figured it out. My guess was that the sensor switch that detects the position of the actuators was bad.

Hi there, I had similar issue with my 09 speed. I fixed it by gluing a piece of lego on the white plastic tap that engages the switch, because I found that the switch doesn't trigger until it is pressed in a fair bit, maybe due to age. I also replaced the spark plugs at the same time. The code is gone and hasn't returned so far.
