Very cool collection of Hendrix’s albums! I have a white label promo of Rainbow Bridge as well, but my cover is quite worn, but the vinyl is in excellent shape. I’m glad I went to the EMP before it got changed. I never saw the Hendrix memorial grave site, so it was cool that you showed it. A few months back, I went to visit my uncle and bought him Electric Ladyland on vinyl. My Dad drove from 11 hrs away and surprised me. Anyways, all three of us listened to the album and drank some scotch. My uncle’s system is amazing and the room just enhanced the sound. The separation of the speakers really helped as well. Eddie Kramer and Hendrix masterfully mixed that album. The way his guitar goes from the left to the right and all points in between. My dad kept shaking his head at how amazing Hendrix was. I’ve heard the album well over a hundred times but never like that. Before my dad went to Vietnam he played the original for my uncle, and had him listen to it on headphones. I never knew that before. So the album was and still is very special for me and my family.

Hi Mazzy, Sorry that I am a little late to this dance. I am a massive fan of Jimi. I spent my teenage years having the Smash Hits comp on my turntable constantly. As I grow older I still appreciate the raw talent, sheer beauty of his music that had it all; blues, jazz, soul, funk, rock. He had a voice... incredible image ... a beautiful spirit that we lost way too soon. I cannot even begin to imagine what he would have done more innovative on the guitar had he lived into the 21st century. Thank you for honoring his spirit and his vinyls. Loved the tour. A memorial fitting of the man. God bless and be well, "Angel" of the VC Tino

Great video as always. Thanks Mazzy. Happy Birthday to Jimi! Interesting to think what he would have done and what guitar sounds he would have developed had he lived. Thought I’d share a thought. I had some time off this week and have been reading up on early guitar effects pedals. So much of the classic Jimi sound comes from his pedals and the sequence that he rigged them in. Much of the praise goes to his sound tech Roger Mayer who introduced Jimi to early pedals and also built some of his own for Jimi. Roger started working with Beck and Page circa 1966 but hooked up with Jimi when he popped up in London. Jimi had simple pedals compared to today’s high tech selections. An English Vox Wha-Wha pedal (1967), a UK Dallas-Arbiter ‘Fuzz Face’ pedal (1966) and Mayer’s own Octavia pedal (1966). Pump all that thru a big American Fender stack and it’s glorious. Roger’s unique Octavio fuzz pedal is best heard on ‘Purple Haze.’ Jimi was great, but his pedals and effects made him the best! Story goes that Noel Redding took one of Jimi’s rare unique Octavia pedals to a London shop for repair in 1970 and they illegally copied/cloned it and released it as the Tycobrahe pedal. Now everyone could own and afford a pedal that gave Jimi some of his tones. The 'secret' was out. The electric guitar world cracked wide open. The rest, as they say, is history. Until now, I never really understood how critical effects pedals were to the late sixties electric guitar sound we all know and love. Everyone have a safe, peaceful, music filled holiday! - Doc in Baltimore

Man thanks for the Memorial tour. Awesome to see that for the first time. Beautiful shrine to a God. The highlight of my RSD was picking up an OG of Axis:Bold As Love. So heavy. Great collection Mazzy. I need the nudes cover of Electricladyland. Grail for me. Yeah I am one that cannot do the posthumous stuff although Alice Coltrane did it with John’s work on Infinity which I enjoy so I need to get over it.

Thanks for sharing the footage from the memorial. That's pretty cool to see in a video versus a photo. I'm with you about being a completist. With the amount of stuff being repackaged in different ways and being dropped constantly, it's difficult to keep up.

It's hard to believe Jimi's been gone almost 50 years. I was in 8th grade, September 18th, 1970. That summer, i had managed to scrape up enough money mowing lawns to purchase 'Band Of Gypsys'. I still haven't completely gotten over the loss of Jimi Hendrix, turned 62yrs old a couple of weeks ago.

Jimi Live At Berkeley album is another one to get if you haven’t already. I bought Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning back in the 1970s and it wasn’t until the coming of the internet that I found out the tracks had been chopped and changed. Despite that I still love the track Captain Coconut off CL.

You're missing 'Are You Experienced', his brilliant debut; 'Live at the BBC', brilliant 2LP recorded in UK; 'In the West', another brilliant live overview with some rarities (i.e. Johnny B Goode), and 'Live in Berkeley', another micro gem, and 'Blues', his blues overview. There's probably a few others...

Check out your Electric Ladyland vinyl. You will see that Voodoo Child (slight return) was a misprint on the US reprise album cover. On the label it says Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Chile (slight return) as it does on the UK Polydor album. Jimi NEVER recorded a song called Voodoo Child (slight return.) The fault has continued on all CD covers. SRV was aware of this mistake and when he covers it, he corrected the mistake and called it Voodoo Chile (slight return.)

Impressive Hendrix stack Mazzy! And thanks for the tour. Is he actually buried there? Looks like you hit it at a good time and didn't have any other people around....looked peaceful. That "nude" Electric Ladyland is a high grail for me....if you would ever consider letting one of the two (don't care which one) go for trade or sell let me know...if not...I understand. Cheers my friend.

Some of the Alan Douglas produced albums were pretty good some were not . They were better than some of the later 1980s loudness wars cds which to me sounded kind of flat . Alan Douglas produced Midnight Lightning and Kiss the Sky were inferior but his Concerts album and Live at Winter land 1987 Ryko disk And Nine to the universe are pretty good and your right about the latter being a collection of loose instrumental jams .
@charliebrown46242 жыл бұрын
I failed to mention, there are several other misprints and incorrect information on the US Electric Ladyland cover. Look at the names of other artists that played on the album...Wrong. Obviously the album cover layout was compiled by somebody that was not paying attention.
