Hi Akshat, the video is very informative. But, your analysis is extremely biased towards top-tier B-schools in India and abroad. We shouldn't forget that there is a vast majority of "normal" people who attend B-schools which are not top-tier (per your list), but are still good. For example, how does an MBA from NITIE/SP Jain compare with the one from Ross? Would be nice if you could make your videos more inclusive and not obsessively focused only top 3 B-schools in India and abroad.
@ananthkrishnan64043 жыл бұрын
Not just this one, but in general, I find your videos to be extremely biased towards Wharton, Insead, Harvard and IIM A,B,C. Please continue to make great videos like this one, but would be nicer if you could be more inclusive :)

@@ananthkrishnan6404 Its bcz the number of top tier colleges in India is very limited as compared to abroad. The difference in ROI between a No.1 MBA college in India and No. 10 college is a lot more compared to US/Europe/Singapore/etc

Graduating with MBA abroad has no value in India so there's no comparison. So its just selling your nationality to be the emerging middle class of an already developed nation. Someone with 70 lakhs can rather start a business and create wealth in India itself rather than going abroad.

@rizwanrafeek44863 жыл бұрын
Really good video. However, there is something that is glossed over upon by you in this analysis. Immigration and Visa's. Given that it has been increasingly difficult for indian working professionals in the US to secure an H1-B visa over the years and even more difficult to secure a green card/citizenship, how does it make sense to invest over a 170,000 USD for a degree that can land you a job that you can do for 3 or 6 years max on an extended H1-B visa. The chance that you convert that H1-B visa into a green card over those 3 or 6 years is close to zero thanks to increased competition for green cards. So when your 3/6 years are up, you'll have to return back to India, where your american business degree can at best only fetch the same value as an IIM-A degree and at worst nothing.

Thank you Akshat for a wonderful video!! One of my doubts which I want to get clear is: Some students generally know the importance of MBA Abroad than MBA India, but they think that for doing an MBA Abroad we must have 5-6 years of work experience so they generally go for MBA India so that they get a good job as they might not have a job before!(basically to get good job fast) So my doubt is: can such students after having 5-6 years of work experience do 2nd MBA from Abroad??? Does doing a 2nd MBA just to get INTERNATIONAL EXposure is a good option?

It's just so naive the way you calculate ROI.. you are calculating returns without mentioning the risks associated with those returns. I can be certain that I get a well paying job in India. however I would have visa and work right risks while I do my MBA abroad. I may get a 3 yr visa but living abroad permanently is not certain at all. So if U were to spend 1.2 crore and be not able to get a job because of visa issues your life ends there along with your parents.

loved the video! but I think it lacked 1 very important factor the trade-offs/ brand value involved (or to be considered) Sure Harvard/ Insead vs IIMA/ ISB, one should always choose the former. But the real question comes into picture when you have to decide between say a Top-15 or Top-20 US program vs ISB/IIMA in India. Example - Like how would you evaluate between McCombs MBA (T-18 in US) and ISB/IIMA in India for say a career in tech (Mccombs strongpoint)?

Sir it's 28.06.2021 and I am writing this post out of desperation Indian MBAs are not at all worth it I belong to a b school(tier1) and I can't reveal the name of the school but the teaching methods are very primitive we are forced to study subjects from trimester 1 which has nothing to do with real life the teachers are obsessed with class participation and the students with desperate class participation so that they can secure some marks The committees and clubs and cells are toxic and even ragging is not off limits (although they disguise it well) And people are doing MBAs for package of 20+ lakhs(which is a myth) and destroying their lives I made a mistake of doing mba as a fresher There is rat race going on and on and on additionally the college charges fees upfront which is non refundable. We are forced to just make and submit random ppts every now and then because that's what corporate India wants Just to make ppts each and every day.

I don't think you are accounting for the risk factor associated with international MBAs especially with the Coronavirus pandemic. Not all graduates from Wharton/Harvard stay in the US and earn in dollars, many of them return back to their home countries and work. In that case the return on investment would be quite poor. Do you agree?

@kishanagarwal53693 жыл бұрын
For MBA it's generally suggested to have around 5-7 years of experience before pursuing the same.
@mikejos57593 жыл бұрын
The pre MBA experience would be to work as an analyst in investment banking, management consulting, boutique asset management, VC or some in house corp finance role. I have seen people get admitted easily in MBA programs with such background. The truth is MBA programs are working in their own interest. These programs want good numbers with placements and network. So they look for people who are the most in demand in market post MBA. However they also have some quotas for diverse experience but barriers for entry for those categories are low. So the competition remains the same for those as well.. getting into MBA is one thing and having a solid career and job is another.. Ask any MBA after 10 yrs and they will tell U this.. so don't stress your finances for MBA it's not worth it.. put a 50% probability of getting a job you dream of after a MBA.. plan for the 50% when it doesn't go as you dream.. life keeps moving no matter what happens in your career.. so play wise

Fantastic video Akshat! Would be great if you could also do a video explaining in detail, the various ways for availing the different types of scholarships and the necessary requirements for the same.

I almost completely agree with the points put forward in the video. But one thing about your analysis about ROI is fundamentally flawed. Even if you earn 24 L after passing out of IIM A and you spend 24 L for the PGDM, you are not considering the living expenses and the loan EMIs that most students would opt for. Taking that into consideration, the ROI is more like 2.5-3 years at minimum. But yes, the brand value and network you would gain from such an institution would outweigh those few years of trying to break even.

Hey Akshat, lovely video as always! However, a major factor that got missed out in the Wharton example was the visa factor. MBAs typically get only one year of OPT (since non-STEM) which translates to only one chance at the H1B lottery (vs three chances for STEM professionals) and considering the current influx of students in the USA, a lot of students/professionals have to leave the USA after the OPT expires and if they are not selected in the lottery. Can you elaborate more on that? If not the USA, then where can these students go? Maybe a Wharton or Harvard MBA grad would get opportunities around the globe, but what happens in the case of a school like Duke Fuqua or USC Marshall, which are amongst the top USA MBA colleges but sadly the brand is not that well known outside the country - especially in India.

Great video Akshat, it is practical comparison and you've explained it well. One more topic that you can cover is the Online MBA programs , whether they are really worth or not. Looking at the fees and after completion career development, I feel that the Roi of online programs would be very low

Hey Akshat, ROI comparison was commendable. Can you please dedicate one video on your story of how you made into INSEAD and that too with scholarship.
