It is a summary from Kathakali play - nala charitham. Backstory: Nala was a king and Damayanthi his wife (The story contains more on how they fell in love and got married). A demon - Kali tricked Nala into gambling, where he loses his kingdom. Nala and Damayanthi had to leave the palace. Nala requested Damayanthi to return to her father(a king) as he was unable to protect her. Damayanthi declines his requests and stays with Nala. One night, while she was sleeping, Nala leave her and move away, thinking she will return to her father if she doesn't see him. Damayanthi returns to her father and started searching for Nala everywhere. In the mean time, during his travels, Nala helped serpent god - Karkotaka. Karkotaka bit Nala as a return favor and changed him into a dwarf named Bahuka so that Nala could hide himself the eyes of others and avoid being recognised. Nala thanks karkotaka and goes to another King Rituparna and gets employed as the king's cook. Meanwhile, Damayanthi was desperate in finding Nala and wanted to bring him back. She heard from her spies about Rituparna's new cook and had doubts if it is Nala. Shei announced that she would marry again within a day. She did this as a test to draw Nala out of hiding and send the invite to Rituparna. Rituparna sped with Bahuka to claim her. When they arrived, Damayanti did not recognize the dwarf as Nala. Yet, she suspected that the man was Nala because only he could reach her so quickly. After she questioned him, Bahuka changed back into Nala using a cloth given to Nala by karkotaka. This song focuses on Damayanthi's doubts whether Bahuka and Nala are same and her conversations with her maid Keshini.
