3:30 is the Glenwood ave footbridge and shortly after is the Dana Ave bridge. The house I grew up in is a block from this stretch of Truman Parkway, which runs along this route on the right side. I used this route all the time growing up. Amtrak also used this route in 1999-2000 during the Electrification project so the crews could have unrestricted access to the SW corridor. I took a train to Philly once during this time, and this is the last time I took Amtrak over the Fairmount branch. Another tidbit is the MBTA planned to abandon this route after the SW corridor project was completed, but there was enough outcry that the T kept the line in service even after the other trains were now run over the SW corridor. Also, Fairmount is one of only two CR branches that are completely grade separated, (Providence/Wickford Junction being the other)

This was the route I took when I lived in Hyde Park; the trains at Hyde Park were often crowded (thanks, Route 128), so I walked the 1/4 mile to Fairmount and got a seat every time. Before the T added the infill stations in the 2010s, you could get from Fairmount to South Station in about 22 minutes.

I love the Fairmount Line. It actually started my love for MBTA Commuter Rail in 2024 if it wasn’t for Readville or Fairmont line I probably woundlt have this channel. Nice video

Fairmount line W. What's amazing is that they still boast the 30 min service on weekends too! All other lines are every 2 hours.

I've listened to a few of your MBTA videos before, and was always disappointed at the lack of automated announcements. I'm glad to hear that this train has them. It definitely makes a difference at times. When you have a good conductor you may not notice, but when you have one that talks too fast, that mumbles, that doesn't speak well into the microphone, or in the case of some DC cmetro T/Os, doesn't properly announce stops or waits until they close the door to announce where the train is going, having good automated announcements can truly make a difference. They do in DC, which is something I'm reminded of just about every time I visit my friends up there.

The newest Hyundai-Rotem cars have the announcements and door chimes.

That is a strange commuter line, it's operating more like a rapid transit line. I'm surprised they never thought to electrify it and make it a branch of the red line given how closely spaced the stations are.

There's a plan to use BEMUs to get even better service. People in Dorchester and Quincy already complain that the Red Line isn't frequent enough and would throw a fit if the T suggested a third southern branch.

@@andrew_ray Sounds like more of the constant lack of funding that plagues MBTA. They run a lot of service for what is basically a shoestring budget.

That was a great video. With all of overhead wires, to you think the MBTA would ever get dual mode trains?

They’re talking about getting battery electric trains

I've heard rumors they want to buy ACS-64s off of Amtrak once the Airo sets enter service on the NEC. it would certainly speed things up on the South>Providence part of MBTAs network as I think the bi-levels are rated for 110mph and the single levels are rated for 125mph. And the 64s could pull bigger consists than even the HSPs are currently pulling as they have 4000hp on the HSPs and almost 3 times the power of the F40s.
