I noticed that the box art showed a child’s fingertip in contact with the bowl shaped end of the crank. Perhaps that’s how Columbia envisioned the operator’s contact with the crank rather than the thumb and forefinger. Just a thought. These records have less fidelity than a tinfoil recording.😊

Thanks for the suggestion

Well, considering its age, and the discs are wax right? They probably wont sound good either way, even if played on a regular Graphophone

would it be possible to play these on any electronic pickup? I’m curious if transferring them on modern equipment renders any better results

Possibly but it’s a vertical recording so the groove goes up and down which is sometimes called hill and dale recording. You would need to adapt the electronic cartridge to accommodate this direction for its sensitivity

@@Phonoguy I learned a trick where if you transferred it in stereo and inverted one of the channels you’d get a proper signal, at least it mostly works out when I do it for diamond disc recordings

@@Zawmbbeh Yep, given a decent signal, I've had success as well when inverting then mixing to mono

I guess you converted this player into a coin-operated unit...
