They were very successful together for a few years. Ray’s family ran and runs Handlebar J in AZ so he left Nashville. Terry and Ray wrote BIG hits others recorded. I don’t know why, but Ray and Billy parted ways with Terry at the same time. I saw the three of them together at Douglas Corners in Nashville in an in-the-round a few years ago. Jon Michaels was the 4th. RIP to Douglas Corners(it was a great room we lost in the pandemic).

Cause Terry left and played bass guitar with Brooks & Dunn while co writing half their big hit songs after Billy Thomas went back to touring with MacDavis and Ray Herndon made a big deal about being a “background singer” instead of the band being labeled as a trio due to the label and their stupid rules. Terry still plays and sings solo acts all over Texas. But I agree! I miss the big “bands” of the 80’s & 90’s. Nothing better than badass songs with even better 3 or 4 part harmonies with a hallow body electric guitar hitting those classic riffs
@livestems59404 жыл бұрын
@@Thebooniefrog1985 While spot on about the management (the late Ken Stilts) and label (MCA) pushing two of the three into the background being a major reason for the group breaking apart, Billy actually went on to drum and sing with Vince Gill & The Time Jumpers and Ray went to back to playing and singing with Lyle Lovett.
@Thebooniefrog19853 жыл бұрын
@@livestems5940 I completely forgot Billy went with Vince Gill. Crazy how all those musicians used to love just “playing” with other musicians to make awesome music. Truly believe that’s why music isn’t the way it used to be. Not many acts share material anymore. But back to McBride; I don’t blame them for being upset about being pushed liked that. They weren’t the only band to be treated like that, one of the reasons John Rich left Lonestar for example, however, I would love to see them play again. That seems to be the trend right now, all the bands playing at least one more tour. Even Marty got back with Shenandoah and made a new album and are touring again.
