McCann Dog Training

Күн бұрын

It's a big step in your training to teach your dog to listen to you off-leash! Most people simply unclip the leash then act surprised when their dog decides that they aren't that interested in them anymore! In this video, Instructor Carol will talk about loading value when you start to teach your dog to listen without a leash on. She will talk about when it means for a dog to be "leash aware" and a few important steps that you'll need to take (pun intended) to make sure your dog listens even after that leash comes off!
We Now Have A Puppy Essentials Training Program Online!

I agree - i have 4 favs: McCann Dog Training ( i even stay up all night ( when i can) to catch their live show - they always answer the questions , they are great at engaging us, positive and so cool :) , Then Kikopup ( poor girl just lost her new puppy, Dream, only 10 weeks old ). I also watch. Michael Ellis at Leerburg( incredible talented and emphatic AND superfunny. Lol.. ) and off course : School of Canine Science - they are also awesome. . I LOVE this part of youtube :)

OMG! Just came in from a walk with my beautiful Rottweiler girl, nearly 6 years old. She came to me like a gift from heaven nearly 2 months ago. And lets just say that walking on a leash was not here strongest side:) But after watching this video and others from Mcann, we have gone from her nearly pulling my arm off when smelling something good, to actually for the whole walk totally changed mindset. (read: Me). After trying out inside, doing some exercises in the back before going off, we had the best walk and time of our days together. Just a few corrections along the way. What a difference! I can not wait for our next walk and the weeks to come to practice this to make it become the new normal. Both Lizzie and I are so grateful. Thank you!

I have a 1yr old recuse that I've had for only 2 weeks and he pulled non-stop while on-lead. I did this session with him just one and I'm astounded, we can now walk almost continually on a loose lead! Great actionable tips. Letting him realise that he is his own barrier to going where he wants when he pulls works well.

@@h1719 That's just you judging yourself.. I used to be that way. When you stop caring about what people think and just enjoy the NOW, everything gets way better... The way we see people is a reflection of who we are. We automatically judge everyone and create our version of them in our story of life. Also, there are many versions of you in this simulated reality based off everyone's perception of you. You are not the same person to each person that knows you or has experienced you in their story and there will be more versions of you in the "future" which is actually now because all there ever is, is NOW!

Carol's explanations are clear but this is only partly useful. When Carol is approaching the gate and the lead suddenly gets tense, Lucy comes straight back to Carol to start again. That doesn't happen to us. When our dog Paco pulls, he just keeps pulling and maintains the tension in the lead himself. If I try to gently bring him back to me, he resists and the tension in the lead is maintained. I just don't get how she so easily gets Lucy to go back with her in order to start the process of approaching the gate again. This is a problem with so many dog training videos, where there's no acknowledgment that the dog won't necessarily respond the way it's 'supposed' to and there's no instruction about what to do in those circumstances.

I’ve been really trying to focus on name response for my puppy. He sits pretty well in the house and even outside okay for now but he has a hard time responding to his name consistently. I do short range practice in the house using a toy or his kibble as a treat. I may bring a toy outside. He like playing with sticks and leaves and other things when we go out side so a toy may help reinforce his response outside. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you for all the great training videos! We had two dogs and had to put one down a year ago (had him 13 years) and had to put the other down this year (had her 14 years) and we decided to adopt two dogs from the humane society. One is a two year old 18 pound beagle/chihuahua mix who is eager to please and he likes to stay close to us and is quick to come when called. The other is a 9 month old Bulldog mix who is very intelligent and very motivated by praise and food, but she doesn't listen if there's a big distraction (like our outdoor cats in the yard). She has been very quick to learn not jumping up (thanks to the tips from one of your videos). I ordered a long lead just now so we can start using things from this video to work on re-call and staying close. It's difficult because the two dogs love playing with each other and chasing each other around the yard, but it isn't fenced. There's no traffic to worry about, but our yard is surrounded by woods and we don't want her chasing a deer or getting bit by a snake.

I love these videos! You guys are so awesome. I am having issues with my pit rescue with pulling. We have had her for like 5 months and she is approximately 1 yr 3 months. We put her on a harness because we were told flat collars can hurt her trachea. We had her on a prong collar to help her with the pulling, which did help however we recently switched her to a harness and she is constantly pulling as we walk. Do you think I should switch to regular collar? I've been thinking about a vibration/beep collar as well.
