I honestly don't think we'll play Talisman again (after we finish this game). I cannot imagine a more perfect game of Talisman than this one. This is the ideal game of Talisman.

I think it was in one of your early RTG videos where you mentioned that some parts of early DnD weren't fun for the player affected by them, but for everyone else at the table, and that the philosophy was more or less that, since everybody will get fucked at some point it balances out. Would you agree that Talisman follows a very similar philosophy?

Still watching this, so I don't know if you realised, you were reading from the 1995 edition of Talisman near the end, while you were doing dice with death. That edition replaced the inner region with one large space, because it was a placeholder for a tower expansion. You were confusing yourself a lot because the game was almost completely different with regards to inner region rules. Yep, video ended and you hadn't yet noticed. Go to boardgamegeek and check out the inner region comparisons, then get the 80's rules. From memory, you can go back and don't encounter stuff on the way. Tip from 30+ years ago: Take 2+ talismans and or the amulet to the inner region, even if you are a spellcaster.

God bless. MCDM has the best board game playthroughs because everything crazy seems to happen in their games! First it was traitors, lazgun-shield explosions, and the Family Atomics. Then it was the "Boards of Canada". Now it's Toads and the Horrible Black Void!

How fitting that Tom got the Conjurer, since he always seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat, no matter which boardgame!
Payoff after payoff! Watched it on Twitch and had to rewatch here for the sweet sweet satisfaction.

I have had the void happen to me and seen others lose to it also. For seasoned 2nd edition players the last few videos have epitomized the game completely. Its nice to see others playing it and reacting to it just as we did back in the day. The longest game I have personally played took 8 hours from start to finish, but some games others have played out there have gone on for far longer than that.

O'D describes cartoons to Matt the way kids describe them to their parents, but when they forget to say it's a cartoon so the parents think they're claiming to have seen something in real life. "I saw an evil toad. No, really, it's true!"

AFAIK you can always retreat in the plains of power. It's just when wanting to move forward you are forced to keep roll off against death or fight the wherewolf. Also when turning back, even as a toad, Yao don't have to encounter the tests. Read out during this game. So Matt-Toad should live.

Most of the original core game characters were reasonably balanced against each other, only the prophetess really stood out as broken. Most of the expansion characters were much meaner than the average core set character.

The rulebook Matt was using is the 3rd edition ruleset (not that it's much different...). But 3rd edition had a very different inner region than 2nd edition, so those rules may clear some things up for the next game (though...probably not LOLOLOL)

I could be mistaken, but thought I remember from playing this game so many times (back in the 90s) that you cannot cast spells on characters when they are in the Inner Region.
