Spoilers..... Team Anna! It is easy to see why she was ganged up on last time, what a power house. The weather control and shield wall combo was good enough that she was already the spiritual winner of the game, but then she took it all the way to the finish line. In the end she had a better sense of the the weather than the Fremen, better prescience than the Atreides, more ruthless than the Harkonnen, landed shock troops that were more effective than the Emperor and maneuvered in the background with more subtlety than the Bene Gesserit. Most importantly remember she only needed to maintain the status quo to win... But she went for total dominance. Looks like the guild was playing with Norma Cenva leading them in this game.

Matt, I feel like you are vastly underselling the benefit of an alliance with the Bene Gesserit. It seems like the biggest weakness is the lack of money, but once you get that money they can be devastating...especially if Kharama cards give you the ability to steal Treachery from other players. All you need to do is ally with the emperor to take monopoly on the treachery. Then get another loan from the emperor to drop troops and then dominate. Even if you don't get any weapons yourself, the ability to force others to leave themselves defenseless against your ally's weapons is worth the alliance for them in and of itself. You don't need to have any board presence or currently possess any good treachery cards for this to become extremely effective. I think, by themselves, the Bene Gesserit are the worst faction...but as allies they are incredibly powerful.

My recommendation to keep the element of surprise for us spectators is to create a set video length of 4 or 5 hours, no matter how long the game is, and just fill the space after the game with whatever, or just blank space. That way when there's a potential win 30 minutes into the game, we don't know the outcome already based on there being several hours of game time left. Just a thought.

I don't really understand why Matt didn't ally with Anna. Sure, she wasn't quite the Emperor in terms of funding, but she seemed to provide an option that he didn't consider. The ability to warp down troops for free, he asks her for funding, she provides and he immediately passes it back and he is able to leverage his strong leaders with troops. I know he was lacking treachery cards, but I also feel he was trying to aim too hard for the "perfect" combination of a lot of money (e.g. an alliance with the Emperor), rather then the combination he had access to. Maybe I'm missing something about it as I literally have only experienced these podcasts. I found this highly entertaining however, thank you for providing an insight to a game I honestly I never knew existed.

The worm movement at 1:10:00 ish I don’t believe was legal. Worms can only travel through sand and the storm was blocking him from moving into arakeen.
@vleessjuu4 жыл бұрын
The rules mention no such limitation to worm movement. I can see why you'd thematically want to have a rule like that, but the rules only forbid moving into strongholds already held by 2 players and into storms.
@chrisbray30844 жыл бұрын
vleessjuu I’m not sure if going off the board is ok for worm travel, but the position of the storm would make it impossible to travel to Arakeen because of the rock. I think it was more of a common sense thing since the worms can’t travel through the rock. Like I said though I can’t speak to the fact that maybe the other hemisphere is considered all sand so you can go off the board and reach any location connected to the other hemisphere.
@vleessjuu4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbray3084 Sure, as a common sense rule you could argue something like that, but the rules really do not say that. They flatly state you can move troops to any territory you like, subject only to normal occupancy rules. It mentions no considerations of how to go from A to B, so in a narrow reading of the rules you should just treat this movement as some sort of teleportation. Of course, the rules of Dune have been riddled with these sorts of interpretation issues for decades, so I'd just say: play the game how you like. It's what people have been doing all along. In fact, this video uses advanced rules but no advanced combat (where you have to pay spice to use troops at full strength), even though the GF9 rules are quite clear about stating that advanced rules should incorporate advanced combat. This alone shows how people have been picking and choosing how to apply the rules how they like.

I'm sure it's been brought up many times, but use of Ornithopters does not require the units to begin in Arrakeen/Carthag -- when the table is advising Jason at around 25:00, he could have beamed down 3 to Tuek's Sietch and then flown all 3 to the spiceblow and saved cash + increased harvesting/combat efficiency.

This is an epic game. Anna's sitting there, all sweet and innocent; she has 2 cities. Round 6, storm phase. Wait! WHOOM! The shield wall just blew up. WHOOSH! A coriolis storm sweeps halfway around the board. Arrakis and Carthag are simply swept away. When the dust clears, ... Does no one else notice that the Guild still holds 2 cities, with troops in hand and tons of money? Eventually Matt notices. The other players are still trying to recover from the shock of seeing their entire on-board presence vanish. Resistance is feeble. Epic. As for game 1, and the double treachery against the guild, what was the point of that? Sure, Lars, you got 7 spice and a giggle, OD, you got a kick out of stabbing your ally in the back, but your long-term reputation is in tatters. As for the BG, maybe play that faction to win, but rather to play that faction. As for treachery, is House Harkonnen really the worst? What about House Corrino? What happened to Shaddam's father?
