I know this figure has gotten a lot of criticism, but I still find it pretty cool. The other DC collectibles figures have been difficult to get and aren't as nicely articulated as these. Also, the price value of this figure is quite good, as it is something you can pick up at walmart and play with .

I think McFarlane was going for a hybrid design, using elements form BTAS, TNBA and JL/JLU, whilst capturing the overall essence of Bruce Timm’s designs. And I have to say I do quite like it. Great review Spot, very thorough and detailed.

This is only Batman figure ive ever bought because I love it so much... im not even sure why it just looks so cool to me. Its not the usual old boring skinny Batman. Its like a fun more comic style

I love the figure!!! Saw it at Walmart and just had to buy it! They had a few more but I just picked up this Batman and Animated Superman. Can't wait to see what comes out for the second wave.

Superb review, Spot! I have this figure too. "Batman" is my all time favorite superhero, because of "Batman: The Animated Series". I've always been a fan of the "McFarlane Toys" figures. And I'm happy that "McFarlane Toys" now has the "DC Comics" license. I can't wait to see what upcoming "DC Comics" figures, "McFarlane Toys" releases.

Ivan Sanchez I think they did that intentionally so that it fits in with the animated Superman figure that was released, considering that The New Adventures and Superman: TAS had the same art style.

Since I got the expressions pack one I might use photo grametery to 3d print the angry batman head and size it up and then paint it hopefully it will work because the head sculpt being used on this one looks slightly odd.

Good review Spot. I had seen other versions of the animated Batman before and passed due to their lack of articulation. I scooped this figure up and really enjoy him. He is not perfect, but photographs well. For me McFarlane’s line is the equivalent of Marvel Select (with less accessories for now). They don’t always scale and are unique unto themselves. Releasing John Stewart brings some racial diversity to the wave that is otherwise all white. For me, that is important. I think we will get the whole Justice League and I can’t wait to see them all together in 7” glory!

There is a Harlequin figure based on the Batman animated series that is abit tall but a very cool version of Harley with a gun and sledgehammer imo a must buy if you got animated Batman. Im geeked for the Devastator, Grim Knight, Azrael, Arkham Joker & Arkham Batman, White Knight series and Metal series figures. Im still looking for Unchained Superman and Batman Who Laughs i want them asap

Well i too asked why the animated version of superman, batman and the green lantern but since mcfarlane has made them I kind of hope he makes more... I hope he doesn't stop producing more animated figures like he did with his Star Trek line in which he only made captain Picard and captain Kirk. I am still hoping to see them make a spock figure at least.

Maybe the shadows that go over the eyes at certain angles can be seen as an animated look. Remember in Batman TAS when Batman's mouth would sometimes go fully black, mostly when he's intimidating someone, I see it like that.

I think they added it because they will do a Justice league unlimited batman variant at some point even though they used the sculpt for others it may happen

...their was no need for this 'animated' batman. McFarlane should have given us a 'Joker' figure instead or more modern villians like Hush. Also...he should have a 'Build a Figure' piece to make a Bane. Instead they went with a crappy batmobile.

McFarlane should have, if anything, make their own versions of the TV series. Not just current ones but even past and cancelled ones. That would make more sense for the Multiverse line and because not all the characters from the TV series have been made and even those have changed costumes. The only way I see McFarlane doing the Animated series line would be if they just release the main JL members...and even include Hal as the Green Lantern: The Animated Series is part of that. ...they could even make figures of the direct to DVD/BD movies. But to do what DC Collectibles already did?

I like the figure as a what if. This figure is 100% Batman from the New Batman Adventures series. Belt, cowl, grapnel gun, small legs etc. However, it is adorned with the chest emblem and blue inside cape like the Animated Series. I personally didn't care for the animation on The New Batman Adventures, I would have preferred him to look like this figure.

The Handel for the grapnel gun is Animated Series and the hook is neither. the animated one is like a claw and new adventures is like two hooks or something. So yeah like a what if. An interesting adaption

I appreciate the fact that McFarlane Toys has been releasing popular DC characters in figure form. However, I'm much better off sticking with DC Collectibles figures instead. Otherwise, thanks again Spot!

@@pezzz182 The biggest difference is that DC Collectibles only makes figures and statues of DC related characters and that's it. On the other hand, McFarlane Toys makes figures of DC characters, Spawn, The Walking Dead, etc. DC Collectibles makes cold cast porcelain statues, whereas everything that McFarlane Toys makes is made out of plastic.

Three years later and I wanted to drop back in and answer some questions you asked. No we didn’t get the whole league. They randomly stopped with lantern, and secondly I wanted to say again, I can’t believe you said this thing was close. It’s a complete mashup of BTAS/ TNBA designs. It’s nowhere near close and it’s even a headache to look at

I am only collecting the animated style ones because I have enough comic style DC figures from Mattel. I think Green lantern is actually a hidden gem of the wave.

I got all the modern comics ones (7 figures)... I get that multiverse covers tv,movies,games and animated (and technically armored is its own subline accordingn to mcfarlane). Personally iam in on the comic figs and the arkham and injustice ones since they also have comica of those.

I just got this and I like what mcfarlands doing with these but I find the sculpts look rough like theve been made of clay and I don't like the different articulation on different figures.

Not a fan. The proportions are all wrong. The previous animated Batman figures from Kenner and DC are far more accurate.

I went to Walmart in Vaughn today and saw these Mcfarland figures. I find it weird Canadian Walmarts and other stores of the like don't carry horror figures, I see them very seldom in our Toys R Us, other places like Eb Games and The Silver Snail more often, we basically have to purchase them online. Pretty lame!

I don't know how to feel about this figure. I know I will not pick it up however. It's not that bad at being an animated Batman. I don't see it on my shelf though. I do enjoy the comic versions and will pick up some of those ones.

3 reasons not to get an DC collectibles animated figure Is because It breaks when you try to pose it and you will get a glued joint you can't fix and If you accidentally move the Legs to the side they instantly break

The symbol feels way too big to me. Also, the belt is wrong. In Batman: The Animated Series the belt didn’t have the pocket flaps on the side pouches. It was redesigned for The New Batman Adventures to look that way. Another nitpick I have with this figure is the paint on the face looks a bit too pale for my liking. It feels like there were a lot of liberties taken with this figure. One of the weaker ones from this wave. I prefer the comic figures thus far.

Andrew Brindley: His cowl and cape aren't blue. 99% of the time they are black (with a blue lining for the cape). The aanimation team only rarely added blue highlights to show light hitting the surface.

Looks can be deceiving. To make up the 210lbs weight, he probably has a pair of balls that weight about 10lbs. He'd need them to go out in the streets of Gotham City every night.

With all of your complaining and criticism .....I mean critiquing of this series Todd Mcfarlane has in my opinion done way better with their line of Batman animated series toy line than DC Collectibles. Where they ( DC Collectibles) have done short cuts with their toys.......Mcfarlane has true passion in the intent of making his true to the art of the series than pushing out a figure to make profit like DC has.
