I had neighbour’s who left their holstein bull calf in with their cows. My husband recommended that they pull the bull calf out. (We have raised purebred Charolais for over 25 years.) They thought it wouldn’t be a problem as he was only 6 months old. Well imagine their surprise when 2 of their beef cows produced holstein calves in the spring! Mother Nature finds a way.

I used to rent an apartment from an older couple who had 5 chickens and 1 rooster. It was in a city but on the outskirts and wasn't zoned for farm animals. The rooster would wake up the neighborhood around 4:30 or 5:00 am every day..neighbors complained and the city made them get rid of them. They sold the rooster and just kept the chickens for food.

Fred is such a character and a big softie. Recently here in the uk reminded me of you when in our newspapers we have been having a bit of a cold spell and snow ❄️ up north and there was a photograph of an adult version of Fred and other highlands covered in snow and not bothered at all. When the beefy boys have gone the highlands will come into there own….but they are really settled now seeing them chilling altogether laying down was awesome. Till next time. 🐾

I really love it when you can settle down with #44. (I never can remember which is Brisket and which is Ribeye. Their numbers, I have no problem with.) It's a shame he has to go to freezer camp when he has turned out to be so sweet -- I actually think he enjoys you being close -- but like you said, it's a FARM! You don't feed farm animals until they die; you feed them until they're ready or have outlived their purpose. Unless they're a dog, of course... they get to retire. ~ Han had no trouble whatsoever getting right to business! Can't wait to see the piglets.

I don’t think people understand when you breed a certain breed of pig you want them to conform to certain standards. For example I’m breeding kune kunes and I will only breed ones that have a very short upturned snout and they must have peri peri’s or as my son calls them “neck nipples” 😂😂.. But you’re absolutely correct in not breeding her 😉.. Fred is so spoiled. I want to come cuddle them. I will have some highlands 1 days, I’ve always been in love with them 🥰..

This was an interesting video which I enjoyed. My great uncle raised hogs to sell for processing. They were huge red pigs & I don't know their breed. Good luck with having piglets. Will you butcher any of the Highlands in the future?. They are beautiful. Do you butcher any of your chickens for Sunday dinner? Don't worry about folks who get upset you have a real farm People once had farm animals for food & not as pets & if you didn't have them, you didn't eat. Every thing had a purpose whether it was animal or plant & that was to support & feed the family. I understand why you want Fred to be friendly. My great uncle had some really mean bulls . I had a friend who was killed by one of his bulls. So, having a human friendly bull is a plus.

You know in the old days if you didn’t raise your own food you starved. We killed hogs, cows, chickens, we ate game that dad shot. There was no running to the store cause you didn’t have the money. And you weren’t the only one without money. So nothing better than meat you raised. You know what they have ate. And you fed them and cared for them. So, keep it up and provide for your family. Prayers Love and Peace

I have 6 Juliana Potbelly Girl's (5 I got as tiny babies, they are from 2 litters & have same mom & dad) we ended up having 2 rescue their Mom. They are like dog's when around us but then they act like the hogs we had growing up. I grew up on Family Farm/Feedlot/Ranch so we had fresh milk, chickens, eggs, pork, beef, sheep & goat's which when I got married & moved off the farm buying store meat & stuff it took a while to get use to the smell, taste & price. My Grandpa also was a butcher so he packaged our meat. Miss those times. I know how hard U work 24/7 so I always say a prayer 4 U & your family.

Hi Chad... Maybe you could use more lines for the fencing to keep McFred in! I was watching Blue Cactus Dairy Goats, and they used 5 wires! To keep a buck and his ladies in a confined grazing area... There were 5 wires around the fenced area, first time area for the buck to be out of his pen, he didn't even test the wires, so maybe he already had checked out the wires! Do you think Fred would pay attention to the extra wires?

I won't take the addictive pain meds the doctors want me on. Instead i got hemp treats and gummys. I now walk without the terrible pain I had, no limping and or screaming when the knee does not perform as it should. Do what you think is best for your dog.
