McHale's Navy Full Episodes: Season 1x29 | "Instant Democracy" 2 May 1963
Binghamton needs help from Chief Urulu and his tribe to modify the Taratupa airstrip. Urulu - angry over a bad deal with Gruber, involving Navy property - flatly refuses. But, after some lessons on democracy from McHale and Parker, Urulu changes his mind, and drives a hard bargain with Binghamton for the services of his tribe.

This is a fantastic and unique episode because the whole series, McHale always has the drop on Binghamton and this time Urulu outsmarted them both! lol. It was a clever bit of writing and a really funny twist at the end.

I just posted that to the host the Jackieboy... You cannot put a price on classy class. These shows R timeless priceless history. This guy is not selfish he shares it to us poor vets like me that fought a diff war in a diff time & place. Wars R not appreciated. But they R history. Believe me over in the Iraq war there were operators too. I was and always will be known as a McHale.. 33 years later I turned into Old Lead Bottom... Have no idea how it happened... Shell shock maybe..

I looked it up out of curiosity and found out that in 1943 the minimum wage was actually 40 cents an hour, which today would be about the equivalent of $8 - which is slightly above the minimum wage in today's money but isn't really enough to live on, BUT back in those days there was more of an alignment of the minimum wage and the living wage, so Binghamton's offer of 50 cents an hour is actually kinda generous Though I also suspect that the monetary amounts may have been written with a 1963 perspective in mind, so Binghamton's offer could be seen as the equivalent of a modern day boss offering $5 an hour...also worth noting that in 1963 the minimum wage was $1.25, so even Urulu's counter-offer would still be below the minimum wage... ...for my next trick, I'll calculate how much a standard auto insurance policy would be for the titular vehicle from My Mother The Car

The BEST of the sixties! Democracy is great, it may not be perfect, but for prosperity and hope in this world, it is the best we have. We just need to improve on it. RESPECT and COLLABORATION- (irrespective of race, colour or creed) are the cornerstone principles to world peace. All other options are self destructive, no question. You Tube provides a great distraction in entertainment and for a much needed laugh. COVID-19, Yes the cost has been high, but pray it will bring a wake-up call for the world, bringing back good old fashioned values and giving each other a sense of much needed space. All nations need to get a grip, get on with their jobs and restore order and economic prosperity across the world and improve each others' situation. Yes environmental protection is necessary for our very existence as well. It can be done. Rethink, Reset, Re-align, Work Smart and Collaborate - Get on with it!

I believe Urulo was a Navy Master Chief as I hear it. He was friends of Carl Ballentine and the producers never auditioned him in the traditional sense. There is a video on it. Urulo was some associate of the shows producers & a Navy veteran. he is really one of the main sub characters that really breaks up the hum drum theme. Ballentine was in all kinds of movies & he had pull & alotta say in these sitcoms. I don't ever think he was logged as being a producer. I just think he had alotta juice in hollywood at the time.
