That RAS-5000 needs a PreAmp version or a streamer version only that can be added to an existing system ...so that people don't have to buy into an all new integrated just to add Rotel streaming. ** IMO . Also .. Im HAPPY FOR YOU .. that you got to hear all the HighEnd stuff.. Would love to get your honest opinion on the sound quality.

You can still have a love for high end audio and be the Cheap Audio Man. I have been a cheap audio guy out of necessity, and I love my systems, but I would take a high end system in a heart beat. Ignore the nay sayers Randy!

Thank you for showing off these Ferrari-Of-The-Speaker-Word systems. It's always nice to see how far sound technology can be pushed with tons of money put in R&D. I also appreciate that the CheapAudioMan can still show us how and what to buy to get the best bang for our buck in affordable audio gear. Keep up the excellent content Randy!

Some day I'll get a McIntosh amp or preamp. I have a lot of respect for a company that supports their products from decades past. There are so many high-end companies that either don't or when they fold you're left in a lurch. 25 years ago I wanted a set of Thiel 2.3CS badly. Had the flyer in my car as extra motivation as a young realtor literally knocking on doors. Fast forward to today and Peter Thiel didn't sell his company before he died and those products have plummeted in value because you can't get parts. Same situation with 90s Mirage and Energy. If I find a 30 year old Mac amp for $3K I know that for the foreseeable future, it's a product that can be fixed.

It took me many years to reach a point where I could afford to buy a McIntosh amp and preamp. On Christmas Eve 2011, I bought a C50 Preamp and a MC452. I have been extremely happy with them. They don't have the laid back sound that Mac used to have. They revoiced these when they designed them and they have a more forward sound that I really enjoy. People can say what they want about the blue meters, but I love them.

I must admit that I'm no longer A cheap audio man, but, i DO love that such high quality audio is available for such little cashola. Especially considering what i have paid in the past for less audio quality. I also really love that you have not lost your enthusiasm for this area of audio and the ways that you present. Great fun and who knows, i may get tempted to upgrade my second system.... rather than it being the graveyard for first system upgrades. Well done, great posts, please keep them coming. BTW when someone throws huge Watts' numbers out, i really need to know what type of Watts these are..... it would be nice.

I've found that by listening to really good systems, it has allowed me to understand not only what is actually achievable, but also allowed me to find the tonality and detail that I really like, which I never heard in my cheaper sources. So even though I can't afford it, when I audition for my $$ level gear, I can make better and more educated decisions. For me it's the music first and the journey second, so I don't mind at all that my end game system is a few years away yet!

Thank you for the video, Randy. I think it’s neat that lights can be integrated into the cones, but I still feel like speakers are there for a singular purpose, and it doesn’t involve the eyes. How do you feel about screen-based VU meters? On the plus side, they’re always accurate and they never fail. The down side is, they ain’t the real deal, and they never will be.

Hi Randy well explained as usual. You mention Rotel. A company I've been a fan of for many years. They make a good $700 aud amp the a10 up to their michi lines. I'm a fan of the 1500 series middle ground. I run an RC1590 preamp and RB1582 power amp. Good for the money. Mac gear is very well marketed. Ide go vintage with McIntosh. Project are the turntable powerhouse with a huge range of record players. Good that there is demand for these super high end complete cinemas but that's not the real world for the average person on the street who you cater for so well.

Remember folks, with the standard 15 Ampere breaker that is usual for US 120 VAC 60 Hz. wall outlets you can only pull about 1500 watts without the breaker doing it's job. And lots of times, several wall outlets are all on the same breaker. Running those McIntosh monoblocks is going to require a visit from an electrician at the very least.

I never understood the phrase "It's just fun to look at stuff one can't afford or what have you". I can't even stand looking at audio stuff I can afford. Modern day McIntosh gear is garbage. I have had a fair amount of experience with it. One is lucky to have it last 6 months before it starts falling apart. They use the cheapest quality components in the build and eyeball QC. They just slap the McIntosh badge on it to sell it at wildly inflated prices. Now that said, I am also familiar with the McIntosh gear of old and that is a different animal entirely. I'd rather spend $1000 on a vintage McIntosh piece even if I have to sink another $600 into it. Once that is done it will last another 15 to 20 years if done right and sound fabulous. If I had those speakers, the first thing I would do is replace them with almost anything. That sales guy also does not understand speakers or audio for that matter. One can make ANY set of speakers disappear in a room, it is all in setup. It doesn't require some kind of special speakers or a million dollars or something. As for his knowledge of HT, he failed that class as well. Low frequency effect naturally do not come from one or two or four sources or special units. Sub-woofers are as special as it gets. One can with a bit of research and know how achieve what he describes at home. Granted, not likely on a typical living room, but if one had a dedicated room, one could achieve what he described with any brand gear. That guy would try to sell at least $100,000 worth of gear to someone who doesn't have a dedicated room (which is most of us) on the false logic that somehow the gear will magically do it for them. I'm glad I don't have to go to that store or something, I'd tear him apart, but in a civilized fashion. I like that Rotel RAS-5000. Not bad for an all in one box solution. $3000 is just slightly a bit much for what it is, but not bad considering what the same in separates cost. For that money I would like it to at least look like an Accuphase unit. Personally, I would lose the Bluetooth ability, the MQA crap, the video stuff and such and use an outboard DAC such as a Geshelli Labs. Personally, I would not buy that Rotel unit though because it has MQA decoding, video stuff and bluetooth stuff all making a mess out of the audio signal and please get rid of the smartphone crap, just give me a remote. At least it doesn't have an Audiophile sticker on it, thank goodness.

McIntosh has always been McIntosh. No questions asked. I’d buy it for the blue. Very Christmassy.

Hard to choose. My next Lamborghini Aventador SP, or 19 McIntosh amplifiers. For which I'd have to extend my house quite a bit.l. Decisions, decisions .... 😅😅😅
