Quick reminder, you're a reaction channel... Stopping, talking and REACTING to the videos you watch is what you should be doing.. So no need to apologise or try not to stop! Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot you should ignore! 😉

Why the harsh commet. They Done Good here. Enjoy, engage, allow, or take negativity away. Just a quick thought?
@CowmanUK
@CowmanUK Жыл бұрын
I agree. If they wanted to watch it without the comments and reaction then I'm sure people can do so. The whole point of a reaction channel is the reaction. I've seen most of these comedy shows countless times, but the reaction of someone seeing it for the first time is why I'm here. He should feel free to pause, chat, discuss, ask questions and generally react!
@CowmanUK

@@pwking100 That wasn't a harsh comment, it was a kind comment. It was saying "hey, feel free to pause the video and talk about it, because you are a reaction channel and that's your reaction"

@@pwking100 ah that's not harsh, he knows me well enough to know that is constructive criticism (and a memo he's had multiple times) he knows it deep down, but anxiety from people who complain, gets the better of him sometimes. So he gets a reminder every now and then.

The Thick of It is literally hillarious and the natural succession to Yes Minister. The equivalent US version would be VEEP.

Which was also created by Armando Iannucci. Absolutely brilliant writer and satirist. There was some 'Best UK TV Comedy Shows' thing on BBC once and he championed Yes Minister. So it clearly influenced him.

The old and young guys in Hugh's entourage are his party advisors and theres such a rivalry that expands as the series (what we call seasons) progress.

Of course he’s an MP, he just has the additional role of cabinet Minister (officially called minister of the crown even though it’s elected and has nothing to do with the royal family) in reality there is no minister for ‘social affairs’.

The key real world takeaway of this ep. and Malcolm's monologue near the end is that govts can and will twist reality to fit it's purposes as long as it has a compliant media.

It's a superb series. And I say that as someone with senior comms experience in the Govt. Malcolm Tucker in this series is a fictional version of Alastair Campbell, who was the extremely powerful communications director of Prime Minister Tony Blair's strong leadership of the UK in the late 1990s and 2000s. It taps into how Alastair, despite not being an elected politician, was effectively the Blair's right hand man (along with Deputy Prime Minister Gordon Brown) and held huge power. Tony Blair himself was hugely effective for years, effectively being a left wing (but almost centrist) version of the widely respected Maggie Thatcher. But, when he eventually lost his leadership, his reputation was dropping amid allegations that he put media spin above truth - not least because he very quickly sent the UK to join the Iraq war based on false evidence of Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction, So, really, the Thick Of It is about what happens when spin controls politics and has a strong precedent in reality. Characters like Terri Coverley are civil service (so are government, but neither the politically elected nor judicial part of it). She's a civil service press secretary, hence why she's more about running stories basically rather than with added political spice. UK govt, of course, is famous for that mutual strength, and tensions, between political and civil services procedures etc.

Connor you need to know this show started at the very end of Blair & Brown's New Labour years. The relationship between Number 10 and Number 11 (The Treasury) had all but broken down. Blair was sitting in the PM seat trying hard to destroy the country and Brown was fuming with anger because they made a pact that he should succeed Blair long ago as they agreed when buddying up for the 1997 general election.
