Good video, but I gotta say, DO NOT USE ANYTHING EXCEPT DISTILLED WATER IN YOUR STEAMER!!!! Yes, I've used n914 in an extractor.. but that's a completely different system than a steamer. Steamers get to boiling or above boiling temps which will cause these products to create gasses and vapors that are not only dangerous to inhale, but are explosive. ONR contains some particularly nasty compounds and I wouldn't use it without gloves. I know I know you use it all the time and feel fine, right? Just because you feel fine doesn't mean the chemicals aren't causing, or going to cause, damage to your body in the long term.. especially if you are a professional that uses the products often. Read the SDS sheets for any product you use, they are created and made public for a reason. Any dangerous, or possibly harmful, chemicals will be listed on them with the ways they are harmful.. like skin contact, inhalation, ingesting, etc. Anyway, back to to the steamer.. steamers, especially retail non-commercial steamers like the McCulloch that this guy is using.. are designed to only be used with water, distilled water. You are damaging the tank, the sensors, the hoses, and the valves when you use any chemicals. Trust me, you will see better performance by spraying the surface with a chemical, letting it dwell, then going over with a steamer than you would by adding it to the steamer. You're also saving yourself from at worst severe water burns, fire burns, electrocution, Nervous system issues, brain and lung diseases or at the very least a broken steamer, by not adding chemicals to your steamer. Just don't. Don't do it. ONR has already made a statement about this, they don't recommend it, and the Optima steamer manufacturer that people were using it in also made a statement that ONR should not be used ever.
@JP-ro2yi
@JP-ro2yi 2 жыл бұрын
Dang better tell Yvan Lacroix. He teaches that you can steam with ONR. He advises against using anything but water in the black tornador though. From my experience ONR does dry out my hands like any other cleaner but not near as bad and probably one of the least dangerous chemicals you can use. Only warning on the bottle is eye irritation so i think we'll be ok.
@mikeg338
@mikeg338 2 жыл бұрын
@@JP-ro2yi some commercial steamers have a tank for detergents and chems, but streamers like McCulloch, Optima, Bissell, etc. It is very dangerous, if you do a search for optima steamer and optimum no rinse you'll likely find the message board forum where employees of both strongly recommended not to do it, and why. As for the label... Labels for any product should be taken with a grain of salt, search or request SDS sheets for real info on hazards. For the average consumer, you're probably right, but consistent use of toxic chemicals compounds their dangers. Also, labels don't always create the whole picture. ONR Contains D-Limoline, Propan-2-ol, Pentyl Acetate, and Morpholine which are all flammable, all of the above including Oliec Acid, Benzaldehyde, Aldehyde, and especially Morpholine and Propan-2-ol, are not only skin and eye irritants but also Acutely Toxic which means a single exposure can have adverse effects on health. Morpholine and Propan-2-ol are extremely toxic and cause organ damage.... Not things I want breaking down in a steamer, breathing in, or getting in your eyes. Many of the detailing chemicals we use we don't think are very dangerous, some are, even more so when they are "old school" or produced outside the US. The new tech products with metal oxides like Tio2/Titanium Dioxide, Graphene Oxide, and Sio2/silica and organo-silicones, unrelated to the steamer, but to make a point on dangers...are very very bad when sprayed as mists. The pure, semi-permenant, applicator applied types not so much, besides irritants that might carry the silica... The mists though.. turtle wax ceramic spray, griots 3 in 1 ceramic, the last coat, Mother's CMX, etc... Ever used one without a mask? Notice how if you breath it in, you can literally smell it after using it for almost a day later? It's because once it's in your nose and especially lungs, it doesn't leave easily. Sio2 and Organo-silicones like Polydimethylsiloxane can cause Silicosis, a very dangerous form of pnumonia that will most likely kill you if you get it, regardless of treatment. The Tio2 and Graphene are no better. They're not made out to be dangerous, they're made out to be awesome.. and they are! But proper PPE and use are important. For the every day consumer doing their vehicles once a month or so... Gloves and a simple but thick mask at the very least, for professionals, gloves and a respirator like a 3M painters mask or any mask that blocks organic vapors should be used, at the least.. one that blocks oily particles preferably. Detailing cars is a nasty job from the chemicals, to the actual grease, dirt, dander, bacteria, and God knows what else. I've caught MRSA from a customers car and required surgery after scraping myself in the car... So if you don't wear the gloves and mask for one reason... Wear them for one of the many others

@mikeg338
@mikeg338 2 жыл бұрын
@@JP-ro2yi No problem. They're only dangerous if you don't use proper PPE. Yes, Graphene can be dangerous in any form, probably more so in the fiber boards they use for air crafts, boats, car parts, tools, and other items due to the epoxy in it. In any form it's only dangerous when inhaled though. I used to work for a well known aircraft manufacturer, building military helicopters made from said graphene fiber boards. Cancer was common among the people who drilled it to build them... and the fabricators that formed and created the parts with it were even more worse off, not a single one could smell for shit, many had bad lungs, from being around the raw epoxy and loose fibers and forming them under high heat and vacuum systems. The Graphene Oxide in the ceramics for cars isn't as dangerous, but it's still dangerous.. the Tio2, Sio2, and poly- siloxane vapors are probably more dangerous. With a proper mask tho, none of it will harm you.

Awesome product comparison. I have been an ONR fan for too many years to make a change, plus the other ONR products that compliment each other are another reason for me not to make a change.
@ryeguy01
@ryeguy01 2 жыл бұрын
ONR's formula was revamped in early 2021. One of the changes was increased lubricity. There's a chance you still had the old formula and the slickness might not be so different between the 2 anymore.
@ABG2412
@ABG2412 2 жыл бұрын
Additionally, the perceived "slickness" does not necessarily equate to the actual protective "lubricity" where with ONR, polymer encapsulated protection is what protects against scratching (this does not necessarily "feel" tremendously like lubrication to the hands). The language used with these products has done a disservice to the science behind them, but helps connect with the marketing teams' abilities to strike a chord with consumers.

@@blahz7152 I really wish people would choose kindness and dignity -toward each other over nastiness. Blahz, I have a gallon of N-914 in the garage. I absolutely love the stuff and think it is fantastic. Nothing I said is false or merits nastiness. I honestly do not know which product is superior in regard to *real* protection. Do you have established information that could potentially explain why what I said is a moot point? If you do, I am genuinely interested and open to reading it. I use both products and frankly have a hard time sometimes choosing. I've seen a photo series wherein a number of these products were mixed in jars and then dirt introduced. They were shaken and the ONR + Griot's were the only ones wherein the dirt went to the bottom rapidly. All the others kept the particles in suspension for an extended time. This ability to cause particles to drop and stay at the bottom of the bucket is one of the properties that Yvan has repeatedly promoted as *highly desirable* and a sort of defining/superior quality of a rinseless wash. On the other hand, I absolutely love that the N-914 cleans better and does not leave anything behind. Surfactant (N-914) vs. polymer (ONR) - I honestly don't know which I trust more for *protection*. I would love to say goodbye to one and be able to just use the other. I do not generally have loyalty to a company that I PAID for a product. If anything, they should be loyal to their customers. Regardless, and far more important to me at least: Feelings over products made by companies that WE paid, do not and should not ever warrant living, civilized, evolved beings treating other living beings with even a hint of uncivilized nastiness. There is more than enough "nasty" out there over things much more serious than consumer goods. Please aim for kindness brother. I believe you and I and a whole lot of others can be better. Take care.

@@ABG2412 I'm really impressed by your civil attitude and neutrality when dealing with negativity. It reminds me of something HH The Dalai Lama said when asked what his religion was: "My religion is kindness." America is so divided right now..with a literal war between good an evil..so it's nice to see someone who remembers what is important in life..and it sure isn't a rinseless car wash. 🙄 I'm a total newbie when it comes to rinseless car washes..so I hope you can share some of your knowledge with me. I'm only looking at rinseless car washes because I live in the deep south of the USA where currently temps are in the 100+ degrees with 100% humidity..so my foam cannon car washes are out of the question if I don't want to suffer heat stroke. I have a black Mercedes Benz GLS550..and the black color is unforgiving to even the slightest amount of dust and dirt. I plan on purchasing Lithium Ignite After Wash and Lithium Color Crush to apply to the exterior based on KZbin videos showing how these products easily give you the most shine possible with the least work and also repel dust and dirt. But I need a waterless cleaner right now so I can clean my car in my garage and avoid the heat outside. Do you think the N-194 would be a better match for me since it apparently doesn't leave any polymers behind like the ONR product does and therefore shouldn't interfere with the bonding from the Lithium products? Thanks for any advice! 😉👍
@ABG2412

@@Nightbird. Wow. That actually means a great deal to me and impacted me more than I would have previously believed. I would love to think that people are increasingly choosing civility, kindness, goodness over the other since "the other" does not age well and it tends to get old almost instantly. Sincerely, thank you so much. On to your question: What a beautiful vehicle! That is certainly worth caring for. To be totally honest, I cannot say with total confidence (nor I suspect could most of the representatives at any of these companies) regarding the chemistry conflicts/cooperation when mixing/matching products from different companies let alone different lines of products. Both Lithium products you named depend heavily on polymers to do the job. Since ONR does as well, and leaves some behind, if it were me choosing, I would not want any potential interference between the products (esp. on the first application) so I would absolutely lean toward the N-914. You do not need the After Wash product to prevent scratching when you wash with a top line rinseless wash, BUT leaving the polymer/SiO2 protection from the Lithium is certainly something that neither ONR or N-914 are going to do in a meaningful protective way. So again, yes, for the reasons you stated, I would use the N-914. Also - thank you again.

What confuses me is that Yvan Lacroix himself has stated McKee's has improved upon Optimum.
