Boy how sad to see what has happened to all these houses, after growing up there I am glad that I moved when I did in the 70’s. They need to have some work opportunities there in order to bring it back. You did a great job showing this.

Excellent video. I enjoy seeing all of your Adventures in Mckeesport. My good friend I’ve known since I was working at Equibank Supply in the 10th ward lived on Idaho street and another on Patterson Street, Jefferson Street and Huey Street. I didn’t know they changed the name of Olimpia Shopping Center. Mckeesport wasn’t like this when I started working at Equibank in 1974.

Hey Walter, Thanks for the tours you give through the old hometown. The fire station you point out at Evans and Bailey was what they original called the number 3 fire station. My mom's old house was next to the fire station. I lived in three different houses in a 2 block area of this intersection. As you travel up Bailey Avenue, I think there was an alley that paralleled Bailey Avenue that was called Federal Alley. The house near where your grandfather built that brown garage, the owner used to spray water on the hill in that alley and us kids used to sled down the hill on old car hoods and sleds. OMB what memories! I'm 62 now but your videos take me all the way back. The Packer Street steps was where we laid a life like dummy complete with fake blood at the bottom of the steps. Oh man the sirens that came screaming over there. Thanks buddy.

Our house is on Irwin 2nd on the left from Packer across from the steps. Back in the early 1970's the partiers would sit up on the steps. The house at 1708 Packer was empty when we lived there up to 1977. Also back in the day the biggest hangout was the corner of Soles and Irwin. My grandparents lived on Converse up through the early 80's, even back in those days the homes were in sad shape. But as you look there are some very nice homes still in the area, unfortunately the neighborhood is not the greatest. Mckeesport had plenty of chances to get it's self together but to many people stood in the way.

We would sled ride down Packer starting at Jenny Lind all the way down to Irwin until late at night.

Could you do Locust St? Is the Shaw Bldg still there? Doctor Swartz was on the first floor and Mary’s Beauty Shop, Dayne Shaw’s Law Office and Marine Corps Recruiting Office on the second floor until we moves across the street to 506 Locust. So sad to see the town now when it was booming when I lived there. 1967-1971

I used to build Shacks behind Dave and charge bar as a kid back in the late 70s 1210 Maple Street near Versailles Avenue Cemetery. You should do a video of Versailles Avenue Cemetery

Sorry about the delay, I have been tied up with work. The last time I drove through the old neighborhood was many years ago. Sad to see but not surprised.

My God. The memories you just gave me. The steps at the bottom of packer was one of our hang out spots. So many fond memories. What a shame it has become what it is.

For every house that’s gone two more could be taken down. I don’t even recognise this anymore. Been gone 35 years now.
