Thank you so much for this video! I have found it extremely helpful, 6 days post injury -ortho has deemed a grade 2 MCL sprain. Will have MRI to confirm nothing more serious, as bearing weight is still difficult…that’s another week away!!! I still have some mild swelling - but completed the Phase 0 exercises - wearing my brace. Will be returning!

Thanks a lot doctor. I'm 24 years old, a month ago met with an accident and got 2nd grade mcl injury. But i never feel any kind of pain and i always kept walking sometimes wearing braces and sometimes along with hand stick now completely walking without any support. Doctor said 70% recovery had been already achieved. But the problem is water present inside knee and hard muscle like substance MCL side. Please help doctor. May Allah bless you.

if there is swelling inside the knee, then I would be worried about cartilage and meniscus in your knee. your doctor might recommend any MRI to evaluate this further. hope this helps

I tore my bilateral ACL and mcl two months ago in a ski accident. My left side is worse than the right side. I am choosing not to do a CL repair surgery. Do you think I can have a normal active life without both torn ACL.? I am a very active 60 year old. I enjoy bike riding lots of hiking and much more.. Great video by the way thank you.

Excellent video and graduated exercise. It allows me to know what exercise I need to do at what stage. I am able to put my knee straight after the injury so I will do the exercises you suggested. I still have some pain but I am able to walk.

Hello Dr, myself I have MCL grade 2 injury, ACL partial loss at mid, and PCL buckling, (wel that's MRI report says). So should I be adding up ACL and PCL strengthening exercises as well
@srikanthnithyanandammd8 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear about your injury. Usually Acl and pcl injuries are diagnosed predominantly on clinical exam to see if these two ligaments are functional or not. Although MRI helps us, still functional assessment is important. If you can I would recommend seeing a sports medicine doctor to get their opinion about your knee injury to find out what’s going on.

Thank you soo much Dr. for taking time to reply for my msg, I am going to a sports medicine specialised physiotherapist. In the mid of my journey from injury to recovery I was feeling a bit low, and doubtfull about my come back, hence was checking few videos, Lucy I found yours. I more than happy to hear that I should consider the functioning ability assessed by the physiotherapist even though MRI report says so. Wow great seriously great thank you again. Good days bye

Is it wise to use? BFR bands. I just purchased Kaatsu brand. And I have been using it for the past three weeks now. I am not sure if I’m doing the right thing. My doctor is not very good at answering these questions. I would appreciate your input on.BFR Trainings for ACL/MCL injuries. Unfortunately I thought both my MCL and ACL in both knees.

should I start walking with my knee straight, with or without the brace for the MCL? (i can comfortably do all exercises in phase 1 there is only pain when i completely straighten knee and twist it inwards)
@srikanthnithyanandammd2 ай бұрын
Goal would be to straighten the knee all the way when you walk. It might take some time and thats ok

Hi Dr. , thank you so much for video. It is extremely helpful. I got knees sprained one month ago, I didn’t pay attention at all, just did normal activities. Two weeks ago, it gotten worse, and I felt my knee was locked and soft when I was walking. Yesterday the MRI reported I had grade 1-2 MCL injury, also small joint effusion. Do you think I should do exercises start from phase 0 or 1? Now I can extend my knee, but can’t bring back, only half way. In addition, should I use ice or heat to reduce my swollen knee. ? At this moment, I can’t get physiotherapy doctor right away . Thank you very much
@srikanthnithyanandammd4 ай бұрын
Please start with phase 0. Mcl is extra articulate and should not cause effusion. I suspect that there might be something else that would be causing swelling. How old are you? How is the cartilage on the mri
@kevinzhu63954 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for replying. In MRI, Cartilage is normal , only small fluid collection deep to the pes anserine tendons. I am 53 years old.
@srikanthnithyanandammd4 ай бұрын
@@kevinzhu6395 most likely this is pes anserine bursitis. Sometime you see the fluids around the MCL in MRI but based on clinical context, chances you are having pes anserine bursitis. I would recommend icing, relative rest, start with phase 0 and slowly progress. Pes anserine tendon also share some of the MCL function and therefore MCL rehab is sufficient. keep me posted on the progress.
@kevinzhu63954 ай бұрын
Thank you so so much for the advice. Yes, I will ice and follow the progress 0 for 3 to 5 days. I will keep you updated .😊

Hello! I've injured my MCL about a month ago, but I don't really know to which extent as there are long wait times for MRIs in my area right now. I am able to walk without taking large steps, keeping my knee locked and going slowly, but anything else than that and it wobbles a lot. I've not had proper physiotherapy at this point either. Should I start from day 0 or do you recommend I go a bit more into the second section? I can straighten my knee completely and bring it back, but I do still have pain on the medial side often...
@srikanthnithyanandammd5 ай бұрын
I would start with second phase but start with low reps. You can even add an extra set and slowly build from there

How do you know wat level injury you have in the knee my doctor says there no broken bone no fracture but it seems like a ligament or muscle tear that’s all I was. Told with pain tabs

We will have to do a proper exam to find out what might be injured. Recommend seeing a sports medicine doctor.

How long do mcl sprain 1-2 take to recover. I sprained my mcl in June and I’m not fully recovered yet what do I do.

Around 6-8 weeks and sometimes 12. But this includes rehab also. I would recommend checking with a doctor

One more thing Dr, i wanted to know, some exercise you are doing for right leg and some for left (for properly getting recorded), so is it like all these exercises for the affected leg only right,
@srikanthnithyanandammd8 ай бұрын
I would recommend doing on both legs so that you don’t create a strength deficit between two sides.

It might take a while. Unfortunately post ACL injury quad weakness is a big issue for most of them. But with dedicated continued rehab, you will achieve a good strength. Would recommend continuing with dedicated physio.
