Just a tip, most of those cartridge filters have anti drain back valves that hold a good bit of oil. When you take the filter out it drains the oil back into the sump and you can get more of the dirty oil out if you do it first.

2nd the thought of loosening both fill cap and oil filter cover to allow oil to drain back to sump before draining system. Makes for a cleaner filter change! I'd also suggest bolting the base cover plate on last after running/topping up oil to make sure there are no leaks. It also allows any cleanup of filter oil spilling. Good video, well done!

Thanks for posting this. Two questions 1) how much oil did you end up adding? 2) where did u source the o rings and copper washers?
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 5 жыл бұрын
I think it was about 6.25 L I ended up adding. Results will vary depending how much you actually drained. The notification of red to overfilled is around or less than 1 L so you have to be quite careful about that. Temperature at which it's checked is also a bit variation in the gauge. The O-rings were a bulk pack I got at Harbor Freight, the only place that had such a thing locally. Now that I know the size needed I could source them elsewhere. The copper and aluminum crush washers I got from Amazon, nobody had them locally. McLaren charges something like $5-6 per washer, you can buy a pack of 15 like I did for that much. I'll never have to buy those washers again unless I start servicing McLaren's at my house!

I have no idea on the oil pump, I suspect it's mechanical based on the fact that the entire engine is gear driven, no belts to change. Even the alternator and A/C compressor is shaft and gear driven. 91 octane minimum, I use 93 here but 91 is all I could get in California where I bought it.

@@rpwang6784 So buy double the oil you need and waste it after you wasted even more time. Some cars don't do 5,000 miles in a year so you're still doing it once a year. You won't break the turbo line, if you are, you're doing it very very wrong. The filter should be changed with the oil, every time. If the oil needed to be changed, so did the filter. This procedure follows the manufacturer guidelines, and it's the proper way to do it.

How do you do spark plugs
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 4 жыл бұрын
I did mine when I did the downpipes and I ended up not doing a video on that because I forgot to record parts. You have to remove the side engine panels, unplug the coil packs, 10mm bolt on each coil pack, and have a crazy flexible setup on the rachet to pull them out and put them in. It's very time consuming and the first time is quite difficult to figure out the appropriate extensions to make it work. The two plugs being blocked by the subframe on each side are the most difficult to get to, you can't see them while you're doing it.

So hard? Owners are shocked at how easy it is when they find out. It's not uncommon to not have a dipstick, my 2005 Mercedes didn't have one and checking the oil level was more difficult. As far as filling and draining goes, it's no different than anything else modern, other than getting the filter out is difficult if you're short. This uses a Mercedes engine right ? You forgot to have the engine temp set at flesh searing to allow the hot oil to carry out contaminates and blister your skin. Also remember kids, allow your engine to reach operating temps and hold it there for twenty min to allow moisture to escape into the breather system. Short tripping your oil combined with extended oil change intervals is the number one reason you have to come see me to get new pistons and timing chain assemblies every 60 k 😉. Is that the new brush less Ryobi ? How do you like that? Been looking at picking one up, tool guy wants way too merch fo a deeee Walt .

Pagani uses a Mercedes engines, McLaren uses their own (except in the F1, which was BMW). Engine temp was hot, hotter than comfortable to get it on your skin for too long. It's 0W40 so it flows like wine pretty well anyway. I've had that Ryobi for several years, maybe 5 or 6, it's not brushless but I do like it quite a bit. I'm still on the original batteries too.

@@EMFAudio I have a old Ryobi and I've used it in a professional environment daily, I am also on my o/e batts going on seven years now . I knew the engine came from one of those euro guys😁. Well it looks like the custom audio biz is doing good😉🤑👍

@@EMFAudio Pedant hat on ☺ McLaren have never used a BMW engine F1. They currently use Renault engines and before that Honda (2015-2017) and Mercedes (1995-2014). The M838T engine used in the MP4 12C is unique to McLaren but derived from the Nissan Motorsport VRH engine... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_M838T_engine

How often do you change the oil?

1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. A lot of track use usually needs it at lower mileage though.

That is something you must either change the date on the car or have someone with a dealer level tool clear, unfortunately.

It isn't, but it appears it is. There are several companies putting their name on the same lift, minor differences between them, like the fluid tank might vary.

is this the same for others like 570s 650s or 720s?
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 4 жыл бұрын
It's identical for the 650s and 675LT. The 570s should be very similar (I haven't done one to tell you what's different up top, the bottom should be the same, checking oil level is a little different I think). The 720s I suspect will be a little different as the M840T is a different engine but McLaren likes to make things the same across models.

You know your car is loosing value because of that right?
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 3 жыл бұрын
You know it's not actually, right? The only person that will say the car is worth less because there isn't a receipt from a dealer doing an oil change is the same person that won't buy it in the first place, nor will they buy it to drive it. This is also the same person that won't touch a car that's been modified in any fashion, which this car also has, which also raises the value for those who actually drive these cars.

@@khunchai43 There is a plug, a bolt, and 2 turbo lines. The only thing that could be made the same is the sump tank and engine drain. Having those two the same for one each isn't that big of a deal, it's not complicating things and if that slows you down, you shouldn't be working on that car because you're a 15 minute oil change place.
