This was a great interview. Good job Drive and kudos to the interviewer. From what I've heard the next ten years in the automotive industry, patricularly the supercar segment, may see some jaw-dropping innovations being incorporated into design

I love that part around 7:20 where he talks about no one ever designing a beautiful cheetah or animal, they evolved that way...awesome, i love form meets function designs and concepts, whether it's a car, shoe, or house...you need both.

Agree. Designed in the early 1990s and it would still look more modern than a lot of the stuff on today's roads.

thank you thank you. the 12c is my favorite car right now, and this spider looks even better than the coupe. Such a great video with the designer. This is why i subscribe to this channel. anyone can review this car, and i can see it on 50 other channels, but nothing else has this level of detail.

McLaren really nows how to paint a car. Lots of man hours went into the paint job and at 0:54 you can see why. It looks stunning on the screen, you can only imagine how good it looks for real.

Great insights and vision from the designer who knows what he wants to do and is able to do it from a company that lets him do it within the boundaries of the law.

Great question about what new frontiers can be explored or broken in the industry. I personally think fuel economy is the next one. If you look at where the supercar has started and where it is today, its amazing to see the efficiency increase. The new Porsche supercar is supposedly able to achieve 60mpg so hopefully this will inspire other automakers but also maintain the pure rawness and performance of a supercar.

Looking at cars like this being released today. Cars with so much performance, handling, looks, safety and so on. Amazing cars. It is amazing that people can still complaint about them "sucking" or what have you. I'm just really impressed about all these companies releasing these machines. These days it's all just luxury problems because the cars are absolutely insane.

Well I find it hard to explain. It isn't aggressive look at me sort of styling. It's simple elegant graceful and functional engineering on display. It doesn't look pissed off at all, but it just holds my eye almost like no other car. Very few ferraris(250gto, 288gto), and no lamborghinis except the miura, and the zonda compares just for visual appeal. And none of the cars that competes with this car for prettiness would ever come close to matching its dynamics.

Tons of knowledge in this vid. Love it! I have a list of things to go look up on the net now, like memory materials and what not. I have to say though, the camera work was pretty distracting. I can imagine your steady cam guy doesn't have the support arm and his arm is killing. Maybe just concentrate on doing some basic moves with it instead of covering the whole 19min with it. Put a cam on a tripod to grab the bulk. Not trying to hate just some CC from a guy who cares. Keep it up!

I think the MP4 spyder looks more elegant than the 458, but in the coupe form I would say the 458 is more striking in appearance.
