Hey Tavarish, to make your epoxy repairs look better put a piece of painter's tape over the top of the repair while the epoxy is still malleable (sticky side of the tape toward the epoxy) and smooth it out with a flat edge tool or your finger. Once it has cured, the tape will come right off. You can also use the painter's tape to create a dam if you need to build up around the repaired area. Take your time and the repair will look great.

The dealer wanted $20,000 to fix it (it'd be a lot more now), so he took it to a reputable local garage, they flushed the cooling system and replaced some hoses and the thermostat, and educated the Rolls owner about using distilled water with coolant, not tap water. Total bill was under $1,000.

Great to see you guys showing that a engine is an engine. When I was a teen I worked in a English Sports Car shop where a guy let me learn by doing. I did my first paint job on a TR4 and had to completely start over on the door panel because it ran so bad due to being too close, etc. We also rebuild a Columbo V12 Ferrari engine, or should I say I did alone because he had a XKE he had to finish painting. It was fairly straight forward and fun to do and ran beautifully and strong. This build might seem scary but if you have ever worked on a 1973 Jaguar V12 engine you can work on anything.

the amount of times they say "its actually probably stronger" could come back to bite them if the engine blows lmao
@opieg73334 жыл бұрын
There are only a handful of ways to "blow" an engine. Of the repairs they made to the engine block, most were to fix mounting points and in theory should not result in a failed engine, unless the repair process overheated the block material and messed up the metal's structure (something they discussed in an early video, so I am betting they avoided doing that). The one repair that will be a little more sketchy in my opinion is the water pump neck replacement. There they noted the casting seemed to have some inclusions and given the heat cycles and vibrations that part will see, it is something I would always be worried about failing. Now if you blow the water pump collar and fail to shut the engine down quickly, that could fry an engine. But overall, most of those mount points should indeed be stronger than the original casting. I do however worry that the block may have suffered either micro fracturing or warping during the crash - something that might shorten the lifespan of the engine especially if pushed hard. But that is a worthwhile risk, since a replacement motor is probably $50-60K, maybe more given it is a 675 and there are only 500 correct numbered engines in the entire world.
@SuperPhelix4 жыл бұрын
@@opieg7333 Title says a new engine is $100k+ Other than that I completely agree
@opieg73334 жыл бұрын
@@SuperPhelix I have been watching parts sites for a long time. $100K is a ballpark number for a new engine from McLaren. Unfortunately take-out 675LT engines do not come up often. (I believe I have seen 2 over the years on ebay/co-part or similar, which is why I an very curious as to how much of each model's engine spec is hardware changes). Regardless, the closest analog would be a 650s engine and those are running about $40K for a complete unit. (You might have to wait forever to find a actual 675LT engine). Add on shipping and the misc. parts, install and reprogramming and you get to around $50K, assuming you do the work. There is a 650S engine on ebay now for $38.5K in the UK which appears to be pretty good shape, BUT, such engines never get listed unless there is a reason the car no longer comes with it... Personally, I am waiting for a nice M840T to show up at the right price once these 720's start getting salvaged out due to the step depreciation curve on McLarens.

I bought an 04 x3 for $600 recently. I'm going to put about another $600 in parts into it to get it fixed and running right off the bat. Already lapped the valves, assembled a new head, pulled the timing cover, and ordered missing parts including an upgraded throttle body and clutch pedal for future shenanigans. When the head goes back on the engine it will be accompanied by a gt35r turbo with a top mount manifold. Going to start it at low boost, 5-7psi, and make sure that everything is working properly then I'll start the hunt for a manual awd trans and start figuring out how to make a switchable awd/rwd setup then put in a higher pressure spring. I love watching people build cars better than the manufacturer intended; I look forward to more videos on this.
