We cover the beginning of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, by walking Stone-Meredith Ave.
This video is part of our series commemorating the 161st Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. View all of the videos here: • Gettysburg | 161st Ann...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Covered With Glory by Rod Gragg is an excellent book on the 26th North Carolina Regiment at Gettysburg. I recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Day 1.

Hello, my ancestor, a first cousin removed a time or two was Henry Clay Coffey. Henry served with the NC 26th, Co F. We have a letter written by him to his parents telling of a brother's death not of combat but of sickness. Thank you, I will most definitely read the book you have recommended.

GF3 was in 52 NC , Pettigrew’s Brigade, opposite 121 PA and 80NY. He was wounded, captured, and eventually paroled. Wounded again at Bristol. Thanks for the great video.

Your documentary on the Gettysburg Iron brigade. On the 1st day of the battle. Your expertise on this Battle. The Civil War Museum artifacts are just great. That dairy was wonderful. Thank you Garry, Tim, and Kris Thanks for sharing! 💯💕👊👍

Great job guys! It would be wonderful if the Harrisburg Civil War Museum could do some videos like these for the Camp Hill, Lemoyne, Mechanicsburg (Oyster Mill Rd) area skirmishes. They could do pieces on the forts built around/in Harrisburg (Negley Park/Lemoyne). Also, do pieces on JEB Stuart's multi-day foraging/scouting foray the blinded Lee on the first day's fight. Then add these pieces to the Battlefield Trust's collection on The Battle of Gettysburg.

Fowler's demi Brigade of the 95th NY and the 14th Brooklyn were remnants of the Eastern and Original Iron Brigade, which was disbanded just before Gettysburg after three other two year regiments mustered out.

Solomon Meredith is buried in my hometown of Cambridge City, Indiana. The highschool I graduated from is located 2 blocks South of his family plot. He certainly is a controversial character of his time. But, he's our local hero in The war against the Rebellion.

Didn't John Burns actually show up to the fight wearing his uniform from when he served in the War of 1812 and his own flintlock? Or is that Civil War mythology?
@Damacles9
@Damacles9 Ай бұрын
The picture of Burns at around 6:00 shows his flint lock rifle and yes he did show up in his old uniform. I think the troops kinda laughed at him at first mixed with admiration, but when the bullets are flying it's all hands on deck. I was waiting for them to mention those facts. I can't recall if Burns changed rifles; was his ammo interchangeable -- smooth bore to rifled? Doubt it.
