I think originally, there were several emeralds on different locations, of various colors and effects, some games showed 8 or even 16. But as they started progressed the lore, they simplified it to have always been 7 that have moved around across all these locations.

If we want to use the idw argument starline had all seven chaos emerald in forces and yet during thoses event on cutscenes while fighting infinite he performs chaos snap. In a earlier issue of idw shadow performs chaos snap when teleporting to mr tinkier and he had no chaos emerald since starline had all seven. He also used chaos spears several times throughout the book with no chaos emerald in his position. Shadow does not need a chaos emerald to use his chaos power however you can argue chaos control is something different so all his other chaos abilities from snap,spear,and blast he can use without a emerald but he requires a emerald for a full chaos control.

Shadow because he is made with black dooms DNA is able to use SOME chaos moves with an emerald ie: chaos snap, chaos spear, and chaos boost. Big moves like chaos control(obviously) and arguably chaos blast, need an emerald. Remember the inhibitior rings on his wrists and ankles are meant to control and dampen the chaos energy he has.

I think that if the series ever does get a finale, they should end it with a threat so incredibly strong that Sonic has no other choice than to go all in unleashing hyper sonic. It might not even be a boss fight, maybe a snap of the fingers. Maybe in the movies or something.

Did you know that originally each island had it's own set of chaos emeralds. That's why in sonic 1 there were 6 emeralds. In some of the game gear games there were 5. And in sonic spinball there were 16. That's why they all look different and in Aosth im pretty sure there were like 4 or 5 different emeralds as well.

Weren't the Super Emeralds in Sonic Mania? They were next to the Master Emerald shrine just like in Sonic 3&K. I know they were grey and cracked but i honestly think that if they fused the Chaos Emeralds into the broken Super Emeralds with the Master Emeralds power harnessed by Knuckles (who could already piece back together the Master Emerald's shards) then they could bring back the Super Emeralds stronger than ever. (Btw i'm pretty sure the Chaos Emeralds and other gems have their power multiply depending on how many you have)

The Archie comics were never canon. They had adaptions of game stories (similarly to the movies) but they weren't canon as they had there own spin on those stories. The IDW comics are new, unique sidestories taking place after Forces. Basically the logic you applied to Sonic X also applies to Archie.

What I think happens is that Shadow uses the fake emeralds that tails made in sa2. We saw how sonic did it, although he struggled. Shadow however, has much more mastery over Chaos Control. We’ve seen Shadow use that teleportation in issue 5 or 6 of IDW without an emerald, since we know that Doctor Starline had all seven (atleast within the first 12 issues)

The chaos emeralds get there power from the master emerald which grants them the ability too turn into super chaos emeralds but there is one gem that is more powerful that is the phantom ruby which has more power then the master emerald and can cancel out the power of the master emerald

I may be wrong but I believe this is the order from weakest to strongest 3. 7 Chaos Emeralds 2. 1 Super Emerald 1. 7 Super Emeralds and The Master Emerald I believe that the Master Emerald hid itself in another dimension put all it’s power into the Locked Super Emeralds and it could only be accessed by putting the Chaos Emeralds into the Locked Super Emeralds. Now after this the Master Emerald began recharging but Mecha Sonic broke into the dimension and tried wielding the Super Emeralds but was unable to due to not having the 7 Chaos Emeralds (He didn’t know he needed them or that the Master Emerald was charging) so he stole the Master Emerald and could only wield the power the Master Emerald had recharged which was equivalent to the 7 Chaos Emeralds. After Mecha Sonic was destroyed and only Sonic, Tails and Knuckles knew about the dimension, the Master Emerald returned to the Super Emeralds and took them and itself to an even more hidden dimension so it could recharge then sit and wait for Sonic and the gang to desperately needs it’s power.

By the way, everything IS canon. Sonic boom had this confirmed in an interview. All of these separate continuities take place in different dimensions. While none of them are canon to the mainline continuity they are all different dimensions that exist within the same cosmology. Sort of like a multiverse theory or something.

Angel island is really in another dimension ? Cuz Frontiers definitely mentions Angel island. So iizuka (idk remember his last name) kind of lied. I think its more of a power scaling problem. What would be Unleashed with the super emerald ? Frontiers, Heroes, Generations ? Most of the Super Sonic fights would be much different, because Hyper Sonic is the ultimate form. He could be stronger than Cyber Super Sonic (not the blue glitched one) or as powerful. And lets not forget that in Frontiers, Super Sonic could do barely any damage to End Supreme. He had to control the cyber corroption to get there. And if the emeralds power are absolute... Hyper is stronger
